Wow! I hate that this book must exist, but it must. A black man was shot. Exactly why or what happened is not known. It doesn’t need to be known because this book is about how it impacts the town's kids. They see and hear things just like adults, but they need more context, more explanation on why things happen. They also want to know how to keep it from happening again. Everything about this book is spot on. Even the information in the back is expansive, important, and necessary. For those out there trying to ban this book because it might make white children feel inferior or sad for history and current society, too bad. Because the black, brown, and other children feel worse as it is their people, they see these bad things happening to. This book is a very important resource that should be in all libraries and schools. We need to learn from history to make a better society, for if we don’t we will repeat it.

Loved this book. It rhymes, the story is oh so sweet, and the illustrations are bright and inviting. What more could one love? Well apparently, for some it wasn’t love at first read but hate. You may have guessed, this book has been BANNED. And you probably guessed right that it was banned because the prince fell in love with the knight, and they are both men. How scandalous!!. This book shouldn’t be banned. It should be celebrated. It celebrates love, and we should too. Ignore the Haters, read this book!

This book has banned not only in the US but in China as well. I had to look up why. This book is about 4 families that travel to China in the heyday of China’s one child policy. Many family’s that had baby girls would give them up for adoption since in Chinese culture reverence is placed on sons. These four families meet, become friends, and stay connected through their lives. We see these journeys from the adoption being granted, through long flights, and the two weeks spent in China before being able to go home. When I heard this book was banned in China I thought maybe because it showcased a part of Chinese history that is looked down upon across the world. Nope. It was banned because one of the four adopters was a lesbian couple. To be honest, I did not even notice that when I was reading and had to go back and look. This book was honest, but beautiful. It showed the creation of new families and takes place in more places in the world than just China. It is a shame it was so frequently banned.

The Stupids have been banned for lots of reasons. The most current reason is for the word “stupid”. Now is the family absurd? Yes. Is this done to illicit laughs? Yes. However, in 2022 society “stupid” would be considered a slur against neurodivergent individuals. Even before 2022 to call someone “stupid” would be an insult that was mean, vile, and hurtful. Do I think The Stupids books should be banned? No. One they are a product of their time (late 70’s) but also, they are making fun of themselves? Yes. In this particular volume, the Family stands in front a mirror store and says, “look at those funny-looking people” and tell their kids to not stare because it’s impolite. They are looking at themselves. You do not find this book in most public libraries anymore because their time has passed. But they represent positive movement in children’s literature with the passing of time.

This story have been around since 1936. It is based on a passed down folk tale. It has been banned for “racist, and stereotypical” depiction of Chinese people through the illustrations. One thing to remember is that this is a product of 1936 where usually no more than 4 colors were used in printing. Even if the illustrations were redone today, I think parents would still want this book banned. The story is of 5 brothers who each go to be executed but survive. Yep. The townspeople try to cut off someone’s head, tries to burn someone alive, try to drown them, etc. But that is not why this book was banned. I loved everything about this. It is such a classic, and unlike modern fairy tales has not been “cleaned” up for an audience. It has been left in its original form, and I think that makes it that much more special.

I was trying to figure out what reason this book could possibility be one of the 100 most banned books from 1990-2000. I thought maybe the crazy pictures that seem a little “druggy”. But apparently it was banned for spreading the occult and making witches seem harmless, nice, and fun. My main thought was that the illustrator was a friend of Salvador Dali. It doesn’t bother me that this is about a witch. The book doesn’t bother me at all, and it shouldn’t be banned, but seriously, if you have not read this, do. Just for the illustrations.

Dav has done it again he’s taken the simplest of young graphic novel and run the reader through every emotion possible. From happy, to rip my heart out sad, but also hopeful. Every emotion! Only the best of the best can do this, and Dav has proved over and over again that they are the best. I want every book in this series. A personal hardcover copy that I can share with my niece and nephews that they can share with their children and on into the future. These books have a lasting story that will want to read over and over again

This book was lovely. It shows two different sides of the same story. On one side is a girl who knows there is going to be a new kid at school, and she’s determined to become their friend. On the other side is the new kid at school who is worried about making friends. This book is the two hunting for each other and we’re constantly seeing the story from both sides. I love everything about this book. The pictures are on port point and the story flows really well.

I’m greatly impressed by this book. It is a picture book, but it gives true facts. What really impressed me is that it mentions facts not normally found in books for this age. It mentions marking territory with urine, how the females of the pride hunt at night. And one thing I had not read anywhere else is how when the water hole dries up, they get their water from the plants surrounding the area by the water hole. Great tidbits like this make this a great resource for any age

It appears little people big world finally did a historical fiction figure I knew nothing about. And I think them for that. This was just enough information to get you interested in the life of the person. Without so much information it bore you. Overall, the story works is entertaining and interesting
