Volume 15 is a bit confusing. We learn of Norman’s plan to make his world a world ruled by humans. We also learned that Emma does not agree with this plan. She has a moral duty to find an alternative. So, she and Ray set out to find the seven walls. Technically they found it but now they need to go through the entrance, determine if they can live in the new land, and save everybody before Norman can act on his plan. Things are moving along quite nicely after two very slow books. However, there are some confusing things. Like seeing the doors and the entrance at seven walls because we were not shown that before. We also get to meet the aristocracy of the demons very briefly. Four books left to go, and we’ll see who survives.

A new home is once again found. A tree of life in every literal sense. Old friends felt long dead are not only alive but in charge. And finally, we have an idea of where or how the demons came to be. But we also get the moral question of should all the demons die? There are only five books left in the series we will see how this all plays out

Book 13 is a placeholder we start off with the shelter being attacked and the kids moving to a new temporary shelter that does not last very long. There are some shenanigans going on and we get some more information but once again this just a placeholder. They are interesting developments at the end but we’ll see how it plays out in 14

This would make a great resource on life of Inuktitut people. A little girl must learn to sew, but you can not just go to the store to buy fabric. Someone has to kill and skin an animal (this instance caribou (aka reindeer)) and the girl, and her gran, have to get it ready for drying, then cutting, sewing, and finally beading. This book is way to long for storytime and is full of indigenous words that are only explained in the end. I liked this book and learned something as was its intent.

This is a simple and sweet story. One friend needs help and seeks another friend. But they want/need something else and seek another friend. It builds from there, and then unwinds in the opposite direction. It just works. It can be a bit wordy, but that isn’t really noticed. The illustrations are nice and not typical of picture books adding to the joy of the story.

This was nice but too simple. One of the biggest questions I can see a kid asking is how come her last name is Mankiller. It is never mentioned. As usual this series just brushes over history. They did include some of the more sorrowful things but gave them a happy spin. I like this series, but this is not the best book in the series.
informative
This book was excessively long and wordy. The author falls into the habit of ‘telling’ rather than “showing”. It is based on what happened in 2020 with the lock down. This book wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. It has been done better by others.

This book is exactly what you expect from the title. A princess gets captured and instead of awaiting a prince or knight to save her, she uses her brain, her bravery, and her tenacity to save herself. This book is meant to be a reminder to girls that they do not have to wait for someone to hand something to them, they can get up and attain that dream on their own.

This book was so much fun. The pirate Grislygrim is mean and nasty. He is a peg leg pirate. One night a cabin kid sneaks in and replaces the peg leg with something else. This happens a few times until the kids on the ship find just the “write” leg for this story. This could be done for story time, as a puppet show, or even as a vocal story. It works and the illustrations are a perfect match.
