I love anything to do with historic Japan. So this was always going to be right up my alley!
If you've ever read/watched Inuyasha there are a lot of similarities that I couldn't help but note. But this story is so full of lore, magic and determination that I fell in love instantly.
I cannot wait for the sequel.

From start to finish, it was everything I wanted. My heart hurts, I need more, and I need it now.
What a Wunderous sequel! I couldn't put this amazing story down! Fast paced adventure, mystery in every chapter. Heart breaking and exhilarating all at the same time! I cannot wait for the next installment!
A dark, fast paced thrill ride from start to finish. Couldn't put it down. It was everything I've ever wanted from a dark mutant fantasy.
A fantastic sequel to Before She Ignites. Fast paced, immersive, heart breaking, beautiful, filled to the brim with adventure. I honestly can't say enough good things about it!!
A dark, compelling, morbid, beautiful story that really touched my soul. I cannot wait to get my hands on Spark.
What an emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish!
A fantastic adventure, carrying on swiftly from where the last book left off. Secrets, lies, curses, love, heartbreak, loss. All interwoven beautifully to make the reader cry, smile, wince and scream all at the same time.
Honestly I think this story could have even be stretched to encompass three books, rather than a duology, the last few chapters were rather quick. I'm not sure that my heart is done with Wil and Loom, or Gerdie for that matter.
Fantastic characters, fantastic story. Highly recommend for anyone who has felt like a spare in their lives.

A magical world, with a well thought out and complex history. Parts of non fiction woven deeply within the fantasy, that makes this world, feel all the more real.
I sincerely hope that a sequel will be written. I adore it so much. It has made my heart ache. I feel I need more.
Beautiful, compelling, dark, enthralling.

This is more of a 3.5 than a solid 4 for me.
As someone who used to work in journalism I really appreciated the story, what I struggled with, was the characters. I had a hard time relating to the main characters and related more to characters that were only very barely featured. Which is a problem for me. Good or bad, I want to be able to root for the main characters in some way. I just felt that the characters fell a little flat for me.
The showcasing of journalism was brilliant though. And again, the story itself was compelling, I just wish I could have liked the main characters.
