I had no idea what I thought this book was going to be... but it wasn't this. And you know what, not even mad about it.
Was it an outstanding piece of literature? nahhhh. But did I enjoy it? sure.
Not sure if I will continue with the series, but I liked this just fine.

I was intrigued by the comparison to We need to talk about Kevin and Gone Girl - imagine, a combo of the two... amazing! This book however, was not that.
As much as I was hooked into the story, I was waiting for something that never happened. I was waiting for the twists, reveals, character development... something. But it just never came.

I really loved this! Obviously I can not speak to the voice of this book, but I loved the themes this touched on, and the exploration of using your voice and how loaded that can be for WOC.
My only critique of this is the sheer amount of issues this book explores - I think it could have been a lot more powerful to hone in on one or two issues, and explain them in greater depth and fleshing them out more.
But this was a beautiful book, well worth the read.
