River Song is my favourite Doctor Who companion, and Alex Kingston is a lovely person who embodied the character so well. But I was hesitant to jump into this book, as Kingston's writing skills were an unknown to me. I needn't have worried - this story is delightful.

Alternating chapters between River's time in Stormcage (prison) and the new Melody Malone book she's writing, the two stories flow really well alongside each other. And as they blend together at the height of the action, things get really nutty and the book in your hands actually becomes part of the story too.

The end seemed a bit rushed but overall it's a great addition to the Doctor Who universe.
