leahrosereads's Reviews (1.04k)

I really enjoyed this issue and how the MCs attempted to keep to mundane tasks at the camp. It was fun just following them along as they attempted to get their badges (and yet, if you've read volumes 1 and 2 you know - shenanigans are bound to happen here).

I had to knock a star off because the artwork was honestly jarring and isn't a style I like. Which is a bummer, because I think this is the art going forward. We'll see if I continue to series at this point. I'm hoping I can get used to the art, because I'm fascinated where this story will go next.

This was my first Shaun David Hutchinson novel, and I liked it just fine.

I definitely preferred the characters over the story, but religious undertones always end up being pretty hard for me to enjoy.

That being said though, the family dynamics here are pretty great, and all of the characters felt genuine and flawed and just fantastically developed.

I'll definitely try another book by this author in the future.

This was such fantastic continuation to what we've seen so far!  Obviously I can't really say much about the plot being 3 books in and seeing specific characters from the first book again but, it was such a delight seeing them again!

We also got to see Confection, a whimsically disturbing portal world.  Seanan McGuire made that world and its residents come to life, and I absolutely loved exploring it while the characters were on their quest.

Oh Lundy, Lundy, Lundy.  Even though I knew how this story would end, it was still such an interesting journey to see unfold.  I loved following Lundy in both the mundane world and the goblin market.

I still prefer the darker setting of The Moors to the Goblin Market, but the fair value/rules system here was so fascinating, and this book may have some of my favorite secondary characters so far.  Moon and the Archivist were wonderful, and I'd love to see a short story following them a little bit further.

DNFing for now. The magic system was interesting, but the story couldn't hold my attention.

Will try again another time.

Interesting concept but not extremely inventive. I called pretty much every twist, which is never a big deal, but can, at times, take away from the book a bit.

That being said, these are easy to devour reads, if you like YA fantasy.

This was a fast paced and decent continuation to the story.

This is a debut novel?!? It's fucking outstanding. Gave me some serious Gaiman vibes. It was just so dark and whimsical and fantastic. Loved it, obviously!
