That's what I'm talking about! Oh this was spectacular! Loved Murderbot and Miki's interactions, and is it just me looking too deep into this, or is Murderbot's POV shifting to a more human type of thought process?
I mean it felt more emotional in this book, but I can't tell if I'm just that invested in the character and seeing that, or if it's actually happening.
Either way, I'm loving that character development.

All the freaking stars for this super dark, creepy story! The villains, that atmosphere, the romance - it was so good!
This was a thrilling, satisfying conclusion to a series. It still had too many disasters for my liking, and the characters were too lucky too many times, but I liked Noemi and Abel, so what the hell!
Will definitely be on the look out for other books by this author!

Had some genuinely great creepy parts, but I was definitely left wanting more of specific elements. The thriller aspects were really well done, and I liked how the story unfolded between the dual POVs...
But gosh golly I wanted more freaking ghosts! That part fell flat, and it's a shame, because it really could've been an amazing added aspect.

What a phenomenal book! Darius was a wonderful MC to follow. His family and Sohrab interactions with him really added to how Darius felt about himself and how he grew throughout the story.
The storytelling here was amazing, and I'm definitely going to pick up the companion novel as soon as I can!

I love when authors take source material and run with it, making something more extraordinary than the original. Victor LaValle did that here. He took what is a racist and xenophobic story and transformed it into a critique of the original while creating a story and characters and setting that made for a fantastic piece of horror that stands completely on its own. It was terrifying and brilliant.
I listened to this on audio and read along. With the full cast and the words in front of me, it really helped bring this story to life. I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan on going this route with William Shakespeare's other work in the future.
This was freaking exceptional!
I loved the characters, the setting, the commentary on society. It was brilliant. It was beautiful. It was exactly what I needed to read at this time.

This is (I think) the first book I've read by the author. Not sure if the super slow start is typical for her, but I almost DNFd it because it felt like nothing was happening.
Outside of the pacing, it's 2020, and while I love morally gray characters and straight up villains, I don't think one of their biggest personality traits needs to be that they are emotionally abusive. And that's the love interest. He's controlling, manipulative, and abusive.
And the MC, Poppy, eats it up. Of course, she's 18 and sheltered, and doesn't know that this isn't how healthy love/lust should look.
Maybe Hawke isn't the true LI, and there will be a better one in the next book, but I'll have to decide if I want to continue with this story to find out. And I'm leaning heavily towards a no.
