This is objectively a good book, but it is very much an English class book. The first 80% is quite dense and literary, but you find yourself very invested in the characters despite the slow pace and various tough subject matters. Then suddenly, it turns into a YA fantasy novel- everything that happened in the final 20% was unrealistic and way too convenient. The exposition, even thought it was fantasy, really did feel realistic- but all of the sudden I felt like I was reading a completely different book! I had no interest in either side succeeding and I think they both didn’t do a great job of justifying their mission. Again, objectively a good book, commentary on colonialism was fascinating, and I find linguistics to be very interesting- but this didn’t feel like a groundbreaking thesis on language to me, more of a fantasy novel where sometimes I learned about how to translate certain words. 

I’m disappointed because I love the Lady Gang and really did enjoy the first book, but this missed the mark for me… Becca’s essays were outstanding and I would love to hear more from her, I also enjoyed the community submissions. Jac’s stories were rough

this was very silly & cute. A little king for a romance novel imo but it was very fun, I want a billionare boyfriend 

You don’t need me to tell you this, but this book really is outstanding. I was glued to every single 600+ pages and really felt like I was part of Cyril’s family, I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time.

Loved the premise and LOVED the ending, but wish that I would’ve cared more about the characters. 

I LOVED this book. I saw someone else describe it as “a ray of sunshine” and I agree completely. A love story not about romance, but about family & friendship & unconditional love in a beautiful setting that draws you in from the beginning. I’m sure this will hold up as one of my favorite books of the year. 

I often complain that books are too slow & over explain things, but the pacing of this was CRAZY and way too fast. The last 30%ish was great and I loved the ending, a great way to wrap up the trilogy (although I’m already thinking of a few loose ends hmmm). Anyway I am so jealous of anyone that is starting this series from the beginning because it’s great!

I got this from the library purely because of the Door County setting and would’ve liked more of it, but overall thought this was fun. I liked the way the mystery unraveled and loved the main character, will totally read more of the series but would like more Door County things, not just town names. The world needs a Wisconsin Elin Hildebrand

This was cute. The imperfect characters felt real, but sometimes I don’t want to read about real people lol. Love a friendship story!
