Talk about an intense read! I blazed through this and loved it. It is not perfect (little predictable), but I gave it 4 stars because I personally enjoyed it so much.
I loved the characters, the setting, the magic rules (even the magic hiccups), and how everything interlocked.
If you enjoy fantasy or revenge fiction I highly recommend you pick this book up.

Legendary is a wonderful follow up to Caraval! Getting Tella's point of view was great, and even though Legend is revealed there are even more questions after the book ends - can't wait for the next one!
Woah.
That was a book.
That went from cruising to light speed...over my empathy. with spiked tires.
Warning: graphic descriptions and viciously human characters in both the best and worst ways possible.
If you get squeamish beware, but I will need to schedule a re-read for this book because Rin's character progression is solidly in the category of amazingly well done. My favorite character personally was Kitay, although the entire host of characters are interesting. I'm hoping we continue to get fleshed out characters as the series progresses.
(PS - never ever have I been so glad to start a series after all the books are out)

Something brushes your neck lightly enough that goosebumps run down your arms, but when you reach back to move the shirt tag, the strand of hair, maybe the bug - there is nothing there but air. Reading the first half "The Book of M" felt just like that.
The characters and the overall tone of the book paired with the jumping perspectives left me feeling unsettled as I progressed through the book and saw more and more of the world, yet I absolutely needed to know more. What happens to Max? to Ory? what about Immanuel & Paul? the amnesiac? Despite the occasional predictable turn this book kept me wondering. After all, in a world where there is a legitimate way to break all of the rules we understand about our surroundings - anything could happen.
I expected a sci-fi romance with a small sprinkling of apocalypse and fantasy. What I got was a magical confrontation of what the definition of humanity and the role of memory in life truly is, with a healthy side dish of apocalypse. The characters kept me reading, the happenings kept me thinking, and the words kept me feeling - all the way to the end.
Blue. 52.

"Poetry as prose" is one of the most accurate statements I've seen about this book. I did not get what I expected when I picked this book up, but I loved it anyway.
This may be my all-time favorite romance. (9/30)
The language used in this book is gorgeous, and I ended up taking blue and red tabs to the pages to visually differentiate when the two characters were speaking and writing. The deep twining here of two characters through the same medium (letters and short POV pieces), while still making the characters distinct? That is nothing short of phenomenal writing.
You get such a wide scope of both character's experience as they write letters, doubt themselves, plot, follow orders, and fall in love. For all that I cannot picture these two characters physically in my mind, aside from relating them to the colors Red and Blue, I have a startlingly clear image of their personalities, goals, and dreams. I know these characters even if I cannot see them.
While this book may not be for everyone (sorry those of you who want to see more of the worlds these characters traverse or specific action adventures), the skill that went into crafting this book amazes me. There is an intimacy here that can be challenging to find in stories, especially ones boasting time travel and spiraling plots, but Mohtar and Gladstone manage it masterfully. (10/1)
