It just had to make me cry in the end. I liked all the twists. Pekka Rollins was the best enemy. I'm in love with all six of the crows of course. I can't help but want more. Though I see the next book in this world is coming in January so maybe. I'm also super curious about the Council of Tides.
3.5 stars. I really liked the animal tales and the slave tales of freedom. The other sections were good but slower reading for me personally. The art throughout the books is superb and moving. Overall, I am happy I read this as I had little to no exposure to black folk tales.
But this solidified that anthologies are not for me most of the time. Once a story is over my attention wanders and its hard to get back into reading the book unless its continuing with the same characters. But that's a personal note.

I can't force myself to finish this. Its just altogether boring to me. An interesting idea the Archive but Mackenzie, her family and her dealings with the Archive, Librarians and the Narrows are almost completely uninteresting. The action scenes once they start happening are quick bursts of energy to an otherwise blah book.

While I understand that being a curious person myself but sometimes just wanting to go about my day without thinking. I still feel like she is not asking questions about the right things and keeping other stuff to herself which all adds up to more danger. I don't want to cop out and say she's too young for this but I can't think of another reason. And when I stopped to ask myself if I really cared about any of the plot the answer was no. So here we are.

I really liked this. Love the magic system and its ties to runes of sorts, language and geography of all things. The plot was intricate yet understandable. World building the same. The characters though, wow. I've never read something where I liked every character this much. There were all so detailed and well written. Even those like Eventeo or Jyon who only appear a couple of times have depth. Even Wyrn who is never on stage is tangible and interesting. There are some loose ends that are not important to wrapping up this book but I wish there was a sequel. However, this is my first foray into the Cosmere so maybe they will be addressed in other books with different characters.
Lastly, am I the only one put off by the description of the Elantrians when they are at full power? Silver skin and white hair doesn't do it for me.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this once I got into it. Actually I switched to the audio book early on and that actually helped. The way the chapters are set up is confusing and distracting. I knew these were short stories but they are out if chronological order and two are spread out through the entire book. So it took some adjusting. This was also highly amusing overall and I was not expecting that so was pleasantly surprised. Definitely a good start and entry point into the Witcher series.
So many feelings. This wasn't me but so many of my friends in high school. My cousins and my mom. But the setting feels like home because it is. The verse is so relatable it didn't feel like verse.
3.5 stars. I enjoyed this as much as Elantris. Officially a Brandon Sanderson fan simply for how he writes people. Denth and Lightsong are still my faves even with that ending. But this one definitely feels unfinished which took some of the shine off at the end. Is there a sequel?
First, its a beautiful book. The images, artwork, format and construction work together to make reading (and writing) a pleasant experience. They also bulk up the book a bit so its really not as long as it looks.
Second, I like and better understand the yin and yang portion of Ezzie's practice. However, I think the yin chapters are more explaining what yin is and isn't, than how to be during those periods of the moon cycles. The Yang times get examples while the Yin's don't really.
Overall, a nice uplifting book with nothing surprising but nothing harmful. I like that she kept things open enough for each reader to find their own path/cycle.
