“The daughter of Captain Hook did not feel fear”
This was such a fun Neverland retelling! I zoomed through it and found a new nickname that I absolutely love.
“My darling girl, I think you might be my new favourite toy”
“Three days, darling girl. My castle is somewhere in the woods, and your father is somewhere in my dungeon. Better hold on to that sword tight – who knows what kind of nightmares lurk behind these trees?”
We are introduced to the main character Jolie Hook as she races against time and magic to save her father, Captain Hook, from Peter Pan. The adventure through the Neverwood was great. You didn’t know what was real and what was magic, it was exhilarating.
“Her fists caught a handful of crunchy brown leaves, which squealed in annoyance until she dropped them and they skittered back up into their tree.”
I absolutely love stories that have sentient buildings/places. The Jolly Roger, The Neverwood, and The Castle all had minds of their own and it just makes the story so much more enjoyable – and usually adds more humour!
“Tinkerbell was known as the best assassin across the land…if that winged snake lifts a finger against my father I’ll feed her to an angry spine-fish.”
There were so many funny little comments or moments: the bird with 2 heads! Loved them! Also, I’m not very familiar with the details of Peter Pan, so I definitely missed some things, but I did not see the end for those birds coming!
“Just looking out for my toys, he decided. But Peter knew that if he had a heart, it might’ve beat for Jolie Hook at that moment.”
I had 2 main problems:
1. The world-building was a little lacking. I think that’s because it is a Neverland retelling so its expected that you know the story and background enough, but I would have liked it to be a little more fleshed out, a little more whimsical and fairy-tale-like. Especially since its been so long since I’ve read anything in this retelling.
2. Jo was kinda…stupid?😅 She fell for every trap that was set up. She even fell for the ones that weren’t set up for her too.
BUT…
I am eagerly awaiting, and hoping for, a book 2!
“If you want me to bleed so badly for you,” he said, voice rough, “all you have to do is ask.”
Thank you so much to Book of Matches Media and the author for providing me with an ARC for an honest review!
I didn’t like this as much as the first but it was still really enjoyable. I found Elena’s character did a complete 180 from book 1. While I liked book 2 Elena, I just don’t think it fit with how she was in book 1.
This was so good! I absolutely loved Elena - how cold she was, how she felt things, how she lashed out when she didn't know how to communicate. I know that would annoy most readers but it made her so real to me.
Dante was great. He was the perfect anti-hero, the perfect mix of bad and good.

The underlying theme for the main characters seemed to be stupidity.
The story was once again a little too slow BUT it was quite exciting when it picked up, otherwise the rating would have been lower.

I liked the beginning and the end but I wasn’t a fan of the middle. I found myself skimming and just not all that invested in the story.
CAN WE ALSO TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT CELESTE WAS SO DESPERATE TO GET HER FEATHERS YET SHE PURPOSELY KEPT LOSING THEM BY DOING STUPID SHIT annoyed me to no end

What the heck was that ending!?
My god. The audiobook was terrible! I'm having trouble separating the story from the narrator. The voices were whiny, annoying, and squeaky.
Okay, now the story. Leigh was an idiot.😅 Like, wow. She was willing to throw her entire life for insta love. I just...can't even describe why I didn't like her. Her wanting to change the archaic ways of Elysium and then all of these thoughts just disappeared when Jarod came into the picture. She changed her entire being to fit a guy. That's...great.
Jarod was also annoying.
The secondary characters were pretty 1 dimensional and I saw Eve being petty and gross from the beginning, especially since the narrator gave her a bitchy voice.
Gahhhh all the characters were so childish.
Gahhhh, I really can't seperate the audiobook from the story, so take this "review" with a grain of salt 😅

What a stupid idea,killing himself 🙄

This was a quick read and didn’t have much to it. May Sage is really good with plot twists and I did enjoy this one! I didn’t like how the main characters were separated for most of the book, or how rushed the ending was though.
Hmm, I dunno if I can write a review on this book. I really enjoyed it though but the ending was too rushed and short.
