I understand why people love this book, but I did not have a good time.

This is a fantasy focused more on political machinations than magic systems and I loved it. There is so much to appreciate about this book but I think what I loved most was the strong character development. I really made the story have an impact on me and so much happens in the last 20% of the book. It was a roller coaster of action and emotions. 

This book was both validating and helpful. It covers different types of friendships and how to navigate them. It includes advice on setting boundaries, communicating effectively, and handling conflict. It's the social skills primer I needed. 

The title and description of this book are pretty misleading. It's mostly just a memoir of Kelly's career. The focus isn't really on a year of no do-overs so much as it is reflecting on motherhood while working in a demanding field. It's a fine memoir, but she definitely strays from the initial thesis and doesn't actually do the pitched experiment of no do-overs. 

All of these characters were terrible people and I loved it.

3.5 stars. This is such a fun time. There were some choices Lana made that I didn't feel were consistent with her past experiences but I was able to not think about it too much and just enjoy the ride. The addition of a second serial killer made this installment go by so fast and I'm looking forward to book 3. 

A fun sci-fi romp. I recommend listening to the theatrical audiobook version. That's definitely the way to go with this one. 

This weird little story about a man who becomes a bug is just so unexpectedly sad and emotional.

Welllllll.......I can't recommend this book to anyone. I was hoping it would get into some of the philosophy behind the cottagecore movement and lifestyle and there was next to no discussion of this. Each chapter was a "how to" of basic information you can find online for free--and probably better information at that since this was very surface level. 

There was a section in the middle of this book that felt too slow and overly saccharine. Aside from that section, I thought it covered the topic of death and dying well. I did want to see more people dying (as weird as that sounds) to learn from more characters but for a debut novel, this was great.
