I loved it.
Are there so many side characters it gets confusing? Sure. Are all of them necessary? Probably not.
That being said I loved it. Yarros breaks my heart with every one of her books and this is no exception 💔

This one has been sitting on my shelf for a long time. I knew i would have to be in the right mood to read it. It is a heartbreaking story that feels close to home for me. The setting is my home town and the story feels so real and similar to the stories of the youth I work with that this was a hard read.

Similar vibes to April Raintree.

What a great sequel 👏
I forgot how much I loved the characters in the first one. I waited way too long to read this book and can't wait to read the 3rd. It is perfectly set up for the next book. The introduction of fate was great, the conflict and twists are so well written i just couldn't get enough.

I liked this one. I really enjoyed the mystery of it all. It gave me Nancy Drew vibes, and that just makes my heart happy. The back and forth storyline was great.
I do wish there was a family tree mapped out. There are a lot of characters with multiple generations to keep track of. It's completely doable, but a quick reference would have been helpful. I also would have loved to see a map included since this was a story about a treasure hunt. It just feels like a missed opportunity.
This one has a bit of everything, and I really liked the way it wrapped up, it's fast paced and I didn't want to put it down, but I tried my best to keep with the Tandem Collective read-a-long schedule. The daily prompts to post to social media made this more fun, I love reading with others and having someone to chat with as I read.

I listened to this one on Audible, the narration is great.
The characters all suck the big one, who am I even rooting for in this one? Literally no one but I loved the way it all played out. It's hard to like a book with unlikable characters but this one does it. It had me fully invested and wanting to find out more about what was going on, Connie constantly being a step behind was just as frustrating for me as it felt for her.

📢 Spoiler 📢 I am rarely a fan of an unreliable narrator. I don't feel like that type of trickery is necessary but that's a personal preference. I just felt like it was an attempt to get you to root for Connie and forget she's just as terrible.
emotional reflective

This book is chaotic. All of the characters are lovable idiots but that doesn't start to come together until that halfway mark.
The one liners in this book are fantastic. If I had been reading this one on my Kindle half the book would be highlighted.
It's the kind of book that hits you in the feels and stays with you for a while. I think the longer I sit with it, the more I will realize how much I loved it.

The abundance of helpline at the end is truly top tier. It's one thing to have a discussion about mental health. It's another to follow up with how to get help.

Good, not great.
I got my copy with Amazon First Reads for January.
While reading this one, I enjoyed it. The suspense of it all, the possible twists, but when all was said and done, it kind of fell flat for me. I think I wrote a better twist ending in my head, honestly, so as it all came together, I was left disappointed.
Characters were unlikable, side stories of mythical creatures were unnecessary, and overall, I'm not sure it was believable.

I listened to this one on Audible. I definitely recommend the audiobook. The narrator is great! Elise is our main character, but the story is about her friendship with Julie. Julie went missing, and 2 years to the day, she shows up. She doesn't remember where she's been or what happened. Her friends don't believe her, and they try to act normal about how weird Julie is acting.
Elise's point of view is all over the place. Her side stories and internal monolog make her feel real and relatable.
I enjoyed this one even if I found it predictable.
mysterious

To describe this one as Mexican Gothic meets The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Huho is a perfect representation.
Each of the dual timelines has a very similar vibe to  these books. The past time line Vivian is our Evelyn Huho with Main Character energy taking no shit until she realizes her picture perfect husband isn't who she thought he was. The present timeline features Vivian's daughters and granddaughter fighting for her inheritance because Vivian has left her house to a different family.
This one is a wild fever dream. What's real, what's not? What is happening with the garden? And why did Vivian leave her house to the housekeepers daughter?
Sprinkle in a bit of a love story and this book has a little something for everyone.

This series thankfully continues to be great 🙌🏼 my free copies of the series expired on the 31st and I had 2 hours left of this one before it cut out on me. So what choice did I have but to get the ebook so I could finish this one before the year ended.
I'm so glad I did and ordered the next 2 in this series. Callie and Temper are a badass girl duo. I'm loving the direction of this story. The banter and sassy with Callie are my favorite!
