This was a really great series. Very cool. I liked that we were reminded often that our characters while evolving, were still young. I like that it wasn't clouded with romance. There was clearly no room for that here and the author kept it that way. There are so many great fight scenes in each book (which I think would play really well on film). There was some humour, some horror and some strong, insightful reflections. We grow to love our main characters, as we should after 5 books. There are enough tough choices made throughout the series to make the ending bittersweet, as it should be. If you enjoy YA, dystopian, sci-fi/fantasy/horror, then I highly recommend this series. Each book goes down easy. You will be entertained.

Amber is actual LOL funny. You know when you read something, a text or a tweet or a post and it's mildly amusing and maybe you crack a smile, at most make a hm sound, but then you write lol anyway to be like, yeah that's funny. Well it's not funny. Amber Ruffin is funny. Who else can write unbelievably absurd and disgusting tales of racism that actually freaking happened and make you laugh out loud about them. Amber. The back and forth between Amber and Lacey is hilarious. Please take your show on the road ladies and let me give you more money. It helped that I love Amber's show and Seth's show and I'm obsessed with Amber Says What segments and that I read this entire book with Amber's voice in my head and her expressions. I don't know what Lacey sounds like but I imagined a muscly little pixie so whatever that sounds like to you. It was fantastic in my head. I will be getting my hands on a copy of the second book: The World Record Book of Racist Stories, ASAP!

3.5 stars. Yes, the first sentence is Fuck her. Which is hilarious. What were you expecting? Those who started their reviews complaining about that line...do you not swear in real life? Then why can't a character in a book. Chill out, I think it's hilarious.

This was a quick read, very entertaining! Which is exactly what I needed. There were some gaps, sure. The main character's quest to define her sexuality, a little annoying and not necessary to the story I found in the way it was done. But it wasn't overdone so I ignored it.

If you're a fan of female led stories, thrillers, writing and are easily entertained, read it :)
