I love a quick read, the perfect little novella that wastes no time telling me am amazing story. Come Closer dives into the unsettling world of possession, where our main character, Amanda, finds herself gradually overtaken by a demon. While those around her believe she’s descending into madness (gurl, stop acting cray), her internal dialogue reveals a chilling surrender to the demon’s control. Gran’s writing is hauntingly beautiful, laced with just the right amount of humour to create a unique, darkly captivating experience. I bought this book for the cover, and I’m so glad I did—it’s one I’ll be thinking about for a long time!

3.5 stars. This book was cozy as hell - but maybe a little too cozy? I needed a little more things to happen to keep me gripped. It took me way too long to read this, thankfully, the last bit where things actually happen went by pretty quick. Wouldn't want to start a slump...Satchel was amazing, btw. Overall the story was adorable. If there's a follow-up to L & L, I'll totally read it.

3.5 stars. I bought this for my brother's birthday but I'm not giving it to him until the holidays so no one tell him. I read it since I had it and I wanted to :) My brother and I used to watch Masters of the Universe religiously and had all the toys. Now that we're in our 40s, this feels like the perfect gift of nostalgia and the funniest part is that I can't remember if I've bought this for him already or not...we'll see!!

Favourite bit: You will be judged by what you wear-especially your shoes. Make sure they're clean, laced up, and always at the ready to kick someone while they're down. That's solid.

A very easy 5 stars to give! The Language of Thorns: Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic is a collection of dark fairytales set within the world of the Grishaverse. I knew I’d love this book, but I didn’t expect to be so IN love with it. Leigh Bardugo, will you go out with me?

This collection features six beautifully crafted fairytales set in different regions of the Grishaverse. While the stories are not connected to any of the characters we know, they weave folklore that they might have grown up hearing. Each story has beauty, danger, and moral complexity that makes them impossible to put down - though I reluctantly did since I apparently cannot live in a magical fairytale land and have to be a real grown-up with responsibilities....Seriously, I savoured this and I'm sad it's over. It's sooooo pretty!!

The illustrations by Sara Kipin deserve special mention, as they perfectly complement the tone of the stories. They are haunting and pull you deeper into each tale, making you look forward to every page turn.

The final story...oh the final story! When Water Sang Fire. It is nothing short of magnificent, this is the one that will sit with me for a while. This story alone makes the collection worth reading.

Overall, The Language of Thorns is a beautiful book that is perfect for those who enjoy fairytales with a twist. It will make an excellent re-read for those in the mood for a cozy escape into a world of dark magic.
