this book was a big deal for me when i was 11 because i managed to finish it in a few days which i didn't even think was possible. even back then, i wouldn't have even considered myself exactly drawn to fantasy but after having pushed through the first couple of pages, i couldn't put it down. i probably resonated quite a bit with the MC and loved how it got a little dark towards the end. 

won't be giving it a rating since i don't want it to skew my recommendations and i doubt i'd enjoy reading this book for a second time anyway but if i had to, probably between somewhere between a 7.0 - 5.5 out of 10.0 (i.e. 3.5 - 2.75)
