This book may have one of the most unique narrative structures that I've ever read. It took a little bit to get into because of that, but is ultimately part of what made it so enjoyable.
It's funny and touching and really makes you think.

This is not my normal type of fiction. It took me awhile to get into it but I really enjoyed it once I was able to. The author was very good at getting you inside the head of the characters and everyone seemed like normal flawed humans.
This really lived up to all of the hype. I love history but can very rarely read biographies or historical non-fiction. I like my reading to be an escape and diversion. The writing style was lively and the subject matter kept me engaged. It is long - be prepared to devote some hours to it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were engaging and curious. Eleanor has very little street smarts but can still take care of herself. It was a little sad at times, but I really enjoyed it. The character growth felt earned.
This is in the running for my favorite book of the year. The characters were all thoroughly enjoyable. At times, it was funny, sad, or thoughtful. My only complaint is that it ended. I want to see what happens to these characters after the final page. The ending was excellent and left everything wrapped up, but I am invested in them.
