I feel like Posie, smart as she is, should have realized early on what was happening, but I'll chalk it up to nerves.

Otherwise, this is a cozy little afternoon read where we get to see many old, friendly faces and bask in the light of a truly nice happy ending without all the usual tragedies on the way.

All throughout this book I had the faint impression that I'm reading Sorcery of Thorns again, rehashed, in a more mature packaging. There are definitely some recurring themes here, but I must say Rogerson's story telling has become far less predictable than in her earlier books. This novel feels more "whole", not chunky like Enchantment of Ravens did, and the stream of events also seems more logical, not so deus ex (even though there might be a literal goddess at play).
I loved how detailed the main characters were written this time around, and how well Artemisia and the Revenant's exchanges showcased this. Overall I adored this book and hope to read a sequel in the future.

This book is even better than expected. All the warm feels and killer puns for my little goth heart

3.5 stars, actually. I liked the complexity of the mystery, but I'm starting to feel like Posie not believing in coincidences is just an easy out for the author to do whatever she feels like with little regard to how plausible certain events are. Or how cheesy. Additionally, I really don't think this nemesis business should be forced. I know the next story is practically built on it, but I'm sure there could have been several other reasons for Dolly to leave? And what about her health that has been failing for the last 3 or 4 books?
