Really delightful! Beautiful and vivid writing, sweet and relatable characters, and a wonderfully eerie monster in an atmospheric little town. Adored it!

Wish it had had more of an emphasis on witches and the witch hunts as opposed to sprinkling mention of them in occasionally just to vaguely justify the title. Seemed more like an overview of how women are perceived and have always been perceived in history while the witch hunts were never quite given the full focus they deserve (again, especially based off the title).

I thought this book was fine, just maybe not entirely for me. I did have some issues with pacing, tone, and character; the chapters are so long which may make you think that you'd get a good grip on all the different characters but I felt that the individual voices were fairly indistinct (but maybe this had to do with what I felt to be overall a plain tone/writing style in the story). Another issue I had was that things would be explained over and over again, often back to back, as character POVs switched and characters learned the same things we the reader have already learned again and again. It also kind of dragged right up until the very end which read, to me, like a big confusing mess. All these random objects and "magical" things popped up throughout the story and I was told that these things were important, but they never felt that way. Everything kind of just happened one after the other, nothing to me felt like it had weight in the story.
I did like the scary moments and monster descriptions (especially Walter, absolutely horrific in the best way) and I thought the setting was interesting, I just wanted more impact from everything overall.

I started this book almost exactly two years ago. I got over 100 pages in but never really got into it, and I honestly really disliked it. Now I think that may have been because I was still reading mostly YA then, so the style of writing and the subject matter weren't things I was connecting with easily.
I picked it up right where I left off this summer since I just wanted to get it over with and get it off my shelf, but I ended up really enjoying it. It was sweeping and pretty and yeah, kinda magical, and I felt way more connected to the characters and the story.
Maybe if I read it again two years from now I'll be totally obsessed.

Loved loved loved! Charlotte and Alex are so adorable and SO funny together I loved them so much. They're dynamic is delightful and lovingly snarky and warm and I just love them together. Enjoyed even more than the first in the series. Also, some of the most romantic sex scenes I've ever read. Loved!
