The Invasion Day

Nan Gua Lao Yao, 南瓜老妖

DID NOT FINISH: 0%

Some of it can be chalked up to the author (juvenile writing, dumbing down characters for exposition dumps, weird and jarring humor scenes)
and some of it is the translator (whole chapters where multiple characters get assigned the POV character's name so it become VERY confusing just what is going on, disjointed paragraphs, chapters out of order, as well as usual MTL shenanigans)
leading to the whole thing just being boring or an exercise in frustration.  I was kind of here for the dynamics, the aliens, and the weak to strong characters, but it leaves a lot to be desired.

Gods that felt like the longest book ever.  It just dragged so much. I never thought I would feel that way about a qt novel but here we are.  I finished it but it felt more like work than fun

I don't know if it was the translation or the original story but God that really dragged in places.  At one point I lost track of where I was and somehow skipped 10 to 20 chapters and I was like... well. It's fine because everything gets repeated so much I knew what had happened and didn't really need to read it.
I wanted to like it because Luo Shuyu definitely seemed like an actually intelligent protagonist but it just dragged so much.

Well. That was... something.  I liked the side characters and a lot of the MC's interactions with the other four in the five champions were gold.  Some of the fights were incredibly dramatic and high stakes but it made the finale battle very... meh.  I was on chapter 119 and I realized this was NOT going ro be great when you only have 3 chapters left and you've barely started your big finale confrontation.
Also the story tried to portray that the MC failed to influence the protagonist onto the good path but honestly... he barely did anything.
in the end the author decided to go with a whole "it was never going to work" type thing by making the protagonist have a whole insanity button that was super easy to press but honestly I just felt bad for the kid. He was literally isolated, abandoned, dragged into situations way over his head, abandoned again, nearly died, possessed, nearly murdered by the ML, obtained a master who very publicly declared love for the ML (immediately following the murder attempt), and then said new master fucked off into seclusion for 10 years and when he recovered, peaced out to find murder ML without even checking in on the disciple. Like... that was some seriously minimum effort reformation. You can have a sad face sticker.

The romance was incredibly slow burn and tbh I'm still not sure I was feeling it.  Most I'm still squinting at Chu Junyu feeling it. Maybe it's because we spend so much time in Pei Jing's head and so little in Chu Junyu's that the paltry few signs of actual romantic interest from him feel... weak? Also he spent so much time off page, just living in Pei Jing's head, that it didn't feel earned. I would've preferred another extra chapter or two that just focused on the two of them together so I could see them together instead of stolen kisses in fraught circumstances and Pei Jing fantasizing about his relationship.

Wow do I feel like I lost brain cells reading that.  It's dumb, trashy soap opera nonsense.  I think I about lost it when the nephew showed up, I was so done with the ridiculousness of this story.

I'm just so bored.  I was digging it at first but my God... it takes so bloody long to get anywhere.

The Cannon Fodder Male Wife of a Wealthy Old Man

DID NOT FINISH: 68%

Really sweet and fluffy, low stakes relationship at the start but around chapter 40 they started hinting at the mpreg and by 60 MCs character took a complete nosedive and really ramped up the mpreg comments... and then they brought in daddy kink and I'm ready to check out

This story is pretty much made or broken by how much violence you can tolerate from a violent tsundere.  For me, it was kind of funny at first but it started to wear thing.  I do think the ML needed to do some pretty heavy apologizing because his behavior was, ultimately, pretty manipulative, but I also completely understand from his perspective with how irrationally angry the MC reacted to everything, he had a legitimate reason to fear that if he told the MC he'd been misunderstanding things and tried to clarify, the MC may very well have cut him off completely to cover his own shame.
The MC's backstory was sad and my heart did hurt for him but it also ended up being used as a vehicle to enable his frequently violent reactions to things and the ML just being like oh he's been so unloved and he's so cute I will just forgive him literally everything.
So yeah.  There were parts of this story I enjoyed but it did start draining on me after awhile and this relationship is definitely toxic being presented as something loving.  I did read almost the whole thing though I peaced out in the extras because it was just an excuse for more irrational tsundere behavior and what little character growth that the MC was thrown out the window so we could have "funny" violent misunderstanding shenanigans.
I'd read a whole story about the side pairing though.  They seemed cute with minimal landmines.
