This is one of the witches books of Discworld. Its been a while since I have read any Discworld novel and the nice thing about Pratchett's world is that you can pick up any of the novels and enjoy them in any order. At least once you've read the first few books to understand the world and some of the most important characters that tend to show up again and again (rincewind and the unseen University, the luggage, the witches, the guards, death and the death rat, the librarian).
In this particular take on all things operatic we follow witches Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax as they find themselves in a situation that feels surprisingly similar to Phantom of the Opera.
Much hilarity ensues.
The narration is fun with special guest appearances from Bill Nighy as Death and Peter serafinowicz as The Footnotes.
Not the best of the Discworld lot but a fun ride nevertheless.

This RH novel comes with high praises and the first book lives up to the hype.
Epic scale adventure, the FMC is a mix of lethal and vulnerable and the male characters are diverse and have depth.
The reveal of the FMC's group has not been fully revealed although we are introduced to many characters by POV chapters. All 3rd person if that matters. But it's clear that not all characters are going to be her sexual partners so the story expands through the storytelling of other characters in her circle
I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series and I think this is a book that will be as much as an epic fantasy novel as a Romantasy

I will wait for book 5 for a final review but this book seems to have fallen under the radar and it's excellent!

This is a novel for those who love slow burn romances. For me it made the for a slow as molasses pace as it was obvious from the time they met that the two characters would end up together. I guess for those who like this trope they would enjoy how after each event the characters enmity or apathy thawed bit by bit until they could finally admit their love for each other right before they must separate.
I hate this slow burn. It makes for a very predictable and boring story
The story itself is fine. Its not an original story as great nomads of the steppe, the barbarian hordes, the horsemen clans of the grasslands and their brutish ways are nothing new. The characters are fine, the writing is fine. Its a completely average fantasy novel with a decent love story, maybe more so if you are into slow burns.

This just doesn't have the same appeal to me as when it first came out. Also no Mr Darcy? Bleh

Yes!
This RH hits all the right spots! First of all the Tarot card aspects are right on. Detailed and correct and as an experienced reader I knew exactly what they were looking at and how they interacted. I can't tell if it is too much for anyone not already well versed in Tarot workings but I swear .5 ⭐ just for the accuracy and detail.
For the rest of the RH details. We have a FMC who is strong and actually sassy with good jokes. The MMCs are hot so no complaints from me.
The FMC has her female BFFs which is great because it makes her less NLOG. And because she is an empath she struggles with the bitchy jealous basic bitch that every RH academy must have. She fights back but she's not bullied. I think we will see some redemption arcs with some of the bitches while others will be drawn to the dark side.
I love me a good good vs evil storyline.
And the characters are in their early 20s so experienced already with sex and relationships that we don't have to waste time with a whole lot of inner monologues and should I or shouldn't I
I want to be a witch and have my own special deck of cards..
