This volume was JUICY. So much going on and all the different schemes are coming together. Also being in Maomao’s head is soooo much better than how it’s narrated in the anime. I like seeing how she’s actually feeling and she can’t stop thinking about that frog! ha. I can’t wait for more. Also Jinshi is so down bad.

This was an easy read and the concept was interesting but I didn’t like any of the characters (which is probably intentional). Every single one of them were not good people. I was frustrated through out and annoyed with everyone’s decisions. Ayoola makes the same mistakes over and over again and has no care for how it affects other people. Korede likes to act like she’s better morally than her sister but is just as bad for not doing anything about it. Lastly while the men shouldn’t be getting murdered just because Ayoola wants to, at least the doctor should have listened to Korede and not blamed her after. That was dumb like she warned your ass and now you wanna whine about it. Anyway, I wish the focus was more on the crimes and not on the drama of men flocking to Ayoola.

This genre is one of my new favorites of the year! I was definitely hoping for more horror aspects but went in blind so I can’t really complain. The start of this book was slow and i was frustrated with Andrew for not working faster but I get he was going through shit. However once it picked up i was sucked in and needed to finish it. I loved the way Andrew as a character grew and worked through his grief and confused feelings about himself and Eddie. Loved the atmosphere of haunts and wild nights, the perfect summer read! I kinda wish there was more because I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and wanted more from them.
Sam calling Andrew princess had me rolling everytime he said it; so happy they seem to have figured shit out in the end/ are working towards that.

Short but impactful. This story is sad and paints a painful yet accurate description of how black boys are treated especially in America. It hurts even more knowing how young Jerome was (only 12) and all the other ghost boys too. I wish he had been able to talk to his family like how he talked to Sarah but I get that that wasn’t the point.

I loved this couple together and the realness of the story. It was heavy in some parts and a bit insta lovey as other reviews say but not in a horrible way. I feel like it’s rare to see a heavy focus on male main characters in romance books so I enjoyed seeing Xavier’s story and his background with abuse. I also loved the side characters and the family dynamic of Samantha’s side.  I wish they stopped their long distance struggle sooner tho, would’ve loved more happy dates.

I loved this duology and think this book wraps it up perfectly! So much action packed in this one and many secrets revealed. I love Hawk and his story made me sad
glad he didn’t get blamed for all he did since it wasn’t his fault. Also happy Wren accepted him and her new awakened ghostsmith abilities. The audio book was done so well too and hawk’s croaky voice was perfect as well as Leo’s tone inflections; I love when narrators can properly give distinct voices without changing to another narrator!
. I do wish there was a bit more romance like how it was in the first book but I still think it was perfect without it. I much prefer romance as a side plot in my fantasy books and this duology does it well. Might buy physical copies so I can re read.

I’m a big Taryn hater and honestly forgot this novella existed as i’ve read the folk of the air awhile ago. I was hoping this would shed some light on her character or give more insight/ a good reason as to why she did what she did but NOPE. Something is fundamentally wrong in that girls brain which I get could be do to her traumatic childhood and what not but come on… Jude always sticking up for her was the worst part oof. I will say one part did make me a bit sad for her and that was the end quote.
“And you’re going to forgive me. You have to. You’re my sister, my twin. You’ve got to understand. If I just explain it right, I know you’re going to understand. And I am going to keep standing here and practicing it in the mirror until you stop looking at me that way when I finish”.
Meaning that she is looking at herself with hatred/ she doesn’t forgive herself which is sad but not entirely undeserving.

Oh what a fun magic system this book has! I was immediately interested in this book solely off of the magic system and can’t go wrong by starting out in a trial of sorts. I’m a sucker for a headstrong FMC and Wren didn’t disappoint. I loved the adventure and politics and mysteries unraveled. The start of the book was a bit slow and gave wayyyy too much information too fast but once you get in it’s great.
The tension between Wren and Julian omg, I love when authors don’t give you a couple right away and they’ve got some dirt between them. From trying to kill each other to working together to forbidden love and a betrayal! My favorite.
I can’t wait to see what Wren, Julian and Leo do next!

I ended up liking this book a lot more than I thought it was. I was also surprised by how literary it was, there’s a lot of themes that could be examined especially the constant presence of death throughout. There was also the constant presence of pain and struggling and a heavy emphasis on that as well as their successes. I was surprised how long this book felt; it felt long in a good way but it’s crazy how much the author fit in and how many years passed throughout.
I liked the idea of a “game death” and it’s metaphor to death in real life as well as gaming as an escape from the real world. I loved all characters but I loved Marx especially and how caring he always was. I think his death having such an impact was significant too as Sam always called him boring or an NPC and it felt like he didn’t realize how important he was. I loved what Sam did for Sadie by making her a game while she was depressed it was perfect. So many aspects of this book are amazing! I am also glad that Sam and Sadie never got together I think it was fitting but I do wish they communicated more.

I am really enjoying this series! Poor Easton needs a break omg they’re always going through it. I found so many things they said hilarious; their inner dialogue is very entertaining. I also feel like this book could’ve had more spooky aspects but the
part where the horses start falling apart after Easton touched them was chefs kiss. It was the perfect amount of gore and turmoil for the character to experience. I do wish that Easton told them that they beat the moroi and got some credit from the Widow who hated them lol. Super happy Bors made it through!
. Excited for the next one to come out, these books are the perfect quick read to get you in the mood for spooky vibes!
