What a fantastic read. The movie was great but this was much better. (Obviously) Jack’s decent into madness was frightening, just looking into the mind of someone who isn’t sure if what they are seeing is real or not it’s absolutely horrifying. Reading about the terror of Wendy and Danny’s experience at the hotel, nothing short of scary. If you haven’t read it, do yourself a favor.
Horror Book Tok...seriously. I flew through this book. It's insane. I went in knowing the subject matter but didn't expect it to start in the first paragraph. Good lord. I've got a strong stomach but some of the details of slaughtering were hard to push through. And the ending...I've got goosebumps, good ones or bad ones, I'm not sure.
Wow, this was a fantastic story. Andrew, Eric and Wen are such a lovely family and endure a horrible tragedy in the hands of four dooms day-ers hell bent on completing a sacrifice to stop the end of the world. Most of the story took place in one room in remote cabin (in the woods) but Tremblay sinks his fangs in and doesn't let go until the very end. While not traditional "horror" (whatever that is), I felt the palpable horror of the small family as they fought for their lives. Now to watch the movie!
Jason Reynolds' is a fantastic writer. His characters is this book are wonderful. It's great to see a YA book feature young, black teenagers and not have it focused on romance but their relationships and learning life lessons.
Interesting concept. Quite a few "twists". I'm not sure if I really loved it but it was an enjoyable story all the same. Worth the read. :-)
This was chosen as my latest read as a recommendation from book tok, specifically horror book tok. The short stories were interesting displays of the human need for connection. The first story, a slave/master relationship between two women online. The second, a struggling couple attempting to rebuild after a loss and the acceptance of an afterlife. And third, a gentleman intent on pleasing a neighbor, even to the extreme. Human nature here friends. But not ultimately too scary which has been my quest.
What a strange book. At first I almost gave up as it was very goofy but I got used to the style and enjoyed the story. Also fun that’s its setting is in my area.
