Funny, clever, sad in places. I will never get tired of these characters.

A middle grade/YA novel about a school mascot seen as racist by some but not by others. Did a good job of portraying different points of view and of being sympathetic to those on both sides of the debate. Also a lesson in how to be an ally without taking over from those who should be centre stage.

Clever, witty and introspective writing mostly about everyday and ordinary things. Enjoyable.

I'm not sure that I enjoy the conspiracy plots quite as much as those dealing with "individual" crimes, but this was still brilliant. Intricately plotted with unexpected twists and turns, and Gamache, Beauvoir and Lacoste all getting a turn in the spotlight, as well as a couple of characters from a previous book. Can't wait for The Black Wolf!

A coming of age and coming out story with likable characters and a good enough storyline.

i found Henners' parents' acceptance, both of him revealing his cancer history and of him coming out as gay, a bit abrupt and unlikely.

As ever, a riveting novel where Gamache and his colleagues take centre stage above the mystery.

Beauvoir's disintegration is hard to watch, but beautifully handled.

Interesting, funny in places, but I found it hard to keep track at times.

A collection of "quiet" short stories in which not a lot happens but the characters draw you in.

A story about the power of books and how they connect people. Some of the links between the books and what was happening in the main story were a little contrived, but generally it was a thought-provoking and heart-warming read.

Fantasy blended with true history making an unputdownable story of the horrors of slavery. Realistic characters and a great plot.
