Set in 1912 The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is a gruesome historical horror novel about a Lutheran Priest, Native Americans and a man turned into a monster.

I found Stephen Graham Jones’ writing to be quite addicting here. This is not a typical type of story for me, I don’t read historical horror, but it was a captivating story. Reading about the Native Americans stories made me want to dive into the history on my own time. Some of this story is based on the Marias Massacre in 1870,  I would suggest reading about that before or during your reading of this novel. What drew me to the story was the vampire and he did not disappoint. He was a terrifying, horrific monster and some of his chapters were difficult to read. There are some really horrific scenes in this story. What made them more scary was some of it is based on real events.  I liked reading the journal articles from the lutheran Priest’s perspective and how he navigated dealing with the vampire.

This is a long book that is sometimes difficult to get through. Some of the violence meshed together a bit and the end was a little strange for me, I could have done without the chapters with the journalist at the end. Overall, if you are up for a wild ride  are a Stephen Graham Jones fan then I would pick this up.

This is a book with three timelines, but they are all weaved together into a cohesive story. It’s a book about sisters, the sea,  and survival.

I found this book interesting, but I’m not sure if it’s as memorable as I was hoping it would be. I thought it was a good story, but I was sometimes bored with Lucy’s chapters. I was more interested in Jess’ timeline and the Irish women. There were some great twists in the book that I didn’t see coming and I enjoyed how the author tied the three timelines together at the end. I wish there was a bit more mermaid action in the story because I think that would have been interesting. All the mermaid bits come at the end. Overall, I enjoyed the story and would read from the author again.

inspiring lighthearted

I liked it. Cameron was kind of annoying. I think I want a pet octopus now...

This was a cute murder mystery with a little romance thrown in. We meet wealthy Pomona Afton, who is used to the high life, living in a penthouse in NYC and going to fancy parties. Her world gets turned upside down when her grandma gets murdered and all of her assets are frozen. She ends up broke living in an apartment with a handsome roommate. Pomona needs to solve her grandmother’s murder fast so she can get her life back and maybe start fresh with her new beau.

I enjoyed this mystery. I don’t read many murder mysteries with romance in them, but this was a refreshing change. I enjoyed Pomona, at first I thought she would be annoying, but she grew on me. I thought the story was well done and the length was just enough. If you are looking for a fun cozy mystery with just a hint of romance I would recommend you pick this up!

informative inspiring

Have you ever wondered what books Jane Austen read? Wondered what inspired her? Then you might want to pick up this book. Rare book collector Rebecca Romney dives into the authors that shaped Jane Austen. The authors are: Frances Burney, Ann Radcliffe, Charlotte Lennox, Charlotte Smith, Hannah More, Elizabeth Inchbald, Hester Lynch Thrale Piozzi, and Maria Edgeworth.  Romney gives us information about the female writers, how they inspired Austen and then discusses how she goes about tracking down the books and  buying them. I found that process really interesting.

I am interested in reading some of these books especially Ann Radcliffe’s because she brings a supernatural element to her gothic novels. Radcliffe inspired many authors such as Mary Shelley, Edgar Allan Poe and Charlotte Bronte just to name a few. I also loved reading about Radcliffe’s life story.

If you are someone who loves finding a special copy of a book, love special editions of books or you are just curious about who Jane Austen was reading then pick up this book!

dark fast-paced

I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did! I was really hooked on this one. This had a great creepy atmosphere, reading this at night was spooky! I loved the characters in this book and the overall plot. Mina, our female protagonist, has just finished her schooling to become a Psychologist. She gets assigned to her first case, a young teenage girl named Alice. Alice is displaying some strange behaviors and the town is convinced she is possessed by a witch. Mina and a local news reporter named Sam head to Alice’s house to investigate and draw some conclusions on what is happening to Alice. Many things happen and Mina’s life ends up in danger. Is Alice really possessed or is it all in her head?

This was a great atmospheric thriller/ horror novel. I will definitely pick up more books from this author!

I have been enjoying this series from Ellie Alexander. Annie runs an Agatha Christie themed Mystery bookshop and they are hosting a Valentine's Mingle for customers looking for love.  Everything is going to plan when a pilar of the community is found dead the morning of the event. Annie has a list of potential suspects and determines the killer just in time for Valentine’s day.

I enjoy our main protagonist Annie and her coworkers Fletcher and Hal, they make a great team. The cozy atmosphere of this book is great and I highly recommend it if you are a cozy mystery reader. There is a plot point that started in book one so I suggest reading in order, you won’t be disappointed!

This book comes out on February 10th, grab yourself a copy!
