The Queens of Crime brings us the amazing crime writers: Dorothy L. Sayers, Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, Margery Allingham and Baroness Emma Orczy as they form their own crime fighting group called The Queens of Crime to show. They are no longer willing to be treated as second class citizens by their male counterparts in the legendary Detection Club. They decide to solve a real crime and prove their worth. A young nurse named May Daniels has recently been found dead, police say it was a drug overdose, but the Queens of Crime don’t believe that for a second. They decide to ban together to try to solve the crime. The women use their knowledge of crime to find out what really happened to May.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved our cast of characters and I want to read more from the authors. I’m very familiar with Agatha Christie, but I want to read books from the other authors. I liked how all the women brought something different to solve the crime and worked together harmoniously. This is the perfect read for someone who enjoys Agatha Christie, a historical mystery, and some good old fashioned sleuthing.

Well, this unexpectedly turned into a 5 star read. This was my first read by this author and I have to say I was hooked. I would classify this as a true thriller, I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. When the chapter ended I needed to keep going. Having short chapters helped me fly through this as well. I loved the snowy winter setting this book had, it brought on an eerie feel to the story. I don’t always love the unreliable narrator trope but this worked for me, I felt for Kerry and I liked her character.
Overall if you’re looking for a quick winter thriller that will keep you on your toes, then pick this up!

Salem Massachutes is one of my favorite places to visit and reading a book set in Salem with a vanishing bookstore was just what I was looking for. I enjoyed the cast of characters, the sisters had such a strong bond throughout the years. This book definitely has cozy fantasy vibes, so if that is something you like then you will like this book. I thought the magic was just enough and I was kept interested throughout the book. I could visualize Dora traveling through Salem and seeing The Witch House because I had been there many times so that really added an immersive element to the story for me.
My only critique is there wasn’t much about the vanishing bookstore, I thought there would be more to that since it is the title of the book. Also, I thought some parts were a bit redundant (constantly talking about traveling back to London, staying in Boston etc..) and parts could have been edited out. I also thought the part where Lenore goes to the airport and sleeps with the bartender was very odd and didn’t seem to fit the story. I still enjoyed the book and would recommend it to cozy fantasy readers.
