I went in expecting a YA fantasy, and what I got was a dark, brutal, and deeply graphic depiction of war and trauma. 😬 Definitely check trigger warnings before diving in!

That said, the writing and the plot were great. The political scheming was dense at times - as an epic fantasy should be - but I found it complicated at times.

I thoroughly enjoyed this! 🄰 A perfect easy popcorn read with lovable characters and an interesting plot. A perfect mix of of humour, romance and adventure.

Only negative I have to say is that I struggled to get along with the narration of the audiobook. The voice sounded very robotic and I ended up googling if it wasn't AI 🫣

NOT going to say it was inspiring šŸ˜‰ but it was incredibly interesting, educational and had funny moments

I've been following Haben on Instagram for a while now and loved learning more about her - I think the only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is that I wished to read even more!

The first 40% of the book were incredibly slow but once it picked up it's better than the first book.

I only read 2.5 stories before deciding to DNF. I’m not usually a fan of short stories, but I gave this a try, hoping it might change my mind. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with the writing style, which, along with the format, made it hard for me to enjoy.

Something happened to the protagonist that really triggered me, and I’m not sure how I feel about making up such things about a real person— even with a different name and a clear disclaimer that it’s fiction. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø It just didn’t sit right with me, so I chose not to continue.

challenging dark informative reflective sad medium-paced

I was a bit intimidated by its size and the fact that it's nonfiction. However, I was pleasantly surprised—it reads like a gripping drama rather than a dry history book.

I went into this knowing very little about the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and I came away fascinated (and shocked) by what I learned. The storytelling is so immersive, and I highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’ve wanted to read this for ages, but classics can be intimidating! Thankfully, this one was surprisingly accessible and easy to follow. I enjoyed the writing style—some parts were actually funny, and I was way more invested in the story than I expected!

I listened to Becoming as an audiobook and I really appreciated that Michelle Obama narrates it herself—it adds so much depth and authenticity.

While I found the book interesting and insightful, I was left feeling a bit underwhelmed. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Maybe it’s because none of the stories truly surprised me? Not sure! That said, it still can be an inspiring read.

while the premise was fantastic, the execution didn’t quite work for me.

⚔ Pros:
āœ”ļø Unique and intriguing concept
āœ”ļø Great sci-fi setting

āš ļø Cons:
āŒ The middle section dragged—very slow and repetitive šŸ’¤
āŒ The ending felt rushed, missing the potential for deeper exploration
āŒ I couldn’t connect with the characters, which made it hard to stay engaged

Overall, I loved the idea but felt it missed the mark.
