What did I just read? (Or listen to as it was an audiobook) This book took completely unexpected turns and I have no idea what to make of it. Oh, and it was weirdly funny at times?

I had to listen to the ending twice and I'm still not sure if I understand what's going on

Loved the premise. Didn't like the parts with the minister of loneliness. Overall a great read though

What an amazing read. Dystopian is my favourite genre and I absolutely loved this book. Definitely recommend if you're looking for something dystopian but without any of the action it sometimes tends to come with.

Sherlock Holmes in an Attack on Titan like setting - loved this idea!
The blend of high fantasy with a murder mystery twist was super refreshing and unlike anything I’ve read before.
It was clever and totally unique.

Pure nostalgia but not the best book if I'm honest. I wasn't a big fan of The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and this one is very connected to it. On the other hand just very repetitive from the first Hunger Games novel.

It was an incredibly devastating and emotionally challenging read. It made me cry and I had to take a break several times before continuing.
I loved how the author weaves Cambodian language and culture so seamlessly into the narrative — it added such depth and authenticity.

It's not an easy read but one that will definitely stay with me. 5/5⭐

I absolutely loved this story! The writing is so beautiful and immersive: You really connect with every character, their personalities, and their struggles. You can’t help but root for them all.

It’s an incredibly inclusive novel with a richly diverse cast and a powerful focus on found family.

Also, a huge shoutout to the narrator Alix Dunmore - she brought the audiobook to life and made the whole experience even more memorable!

Would highly recommend! 5⭐

I'm finding out I'm not a fan of chaotic / un-organised POVs. Big parts of the book dragged on without progressing plot nor character development. Didn't like the choice of format of the ending

The writing felt a bit uneven—clever words dropped randomly into otherwise simple prose.

Loved the concept and appreciated the genre-blending (sci-fi, romance, spy thriller), but it didn't go deep enough into any of them for me.

It had the potential to be funny but the jokes didn't land.

There was a lot going on—climate change, identity, time travel—but it lost focus. The main character's reflections on her Cambodian-British heritage were interesting, just got a bit buried under everything else.

A decent debut, but sadly just ⭐⭐/5 from me.
