This book is supposed to be YA but there are several sex scenes. The scenes are awkward as hell and seemed so out of place with the urgency that Aster is trying to generate. The time jumps throughout this book really got on my nerves. Just as the sense of urgency is starting to be felt, you get a time jump or awkward sex scene. I feel as though the switch was abrupt and the “twists” were so easy to see coming. I also don’t like how it ended and there is clearly going to be a book 3. I doubt I’ll read it right away. This book is also very repetitive and I feel as though several chapters could have been removed and still got the same point across. None of the characters are really likable to me. Overall, this needed at least another of editing and someone should have helped Aster plot the story.

DID NOT FINISH: 10%

This seemed like a fairly interesting book but with the amount of British slang, there was no way I could read this with my daughter and have her understand it. I think the writing just wasn't for us either. As I was reading with her, I found myself updating the sentence structure to add more words, or slightly changing the order to have the sentences read better, at least in my case. I'm sure those who use the slang or terms in the book would love it, but it was very hard to read while having to look up the terms to understand what the book is trying to say. My daughter received this book through Owlcrate Jr, and this is the only one we are putting down without finishing.

2.75 stars - my ratings are gut feelings on what I think I would give a book. It’s not a 1 star because I didn’t hate it. But it’s more than a 2 star but less than 3.

This book had parts I liked, but a lot of it just dragged. It also read very young and it’s like the enemies to lovers switch just flipped but they are still actively trying to avoid each other with real reason. They miscommunicate so often that I thought this was YA over adult fiction. I’ll probably listen to the next one but I don’t think I’ll buy it. I don’t like leaving series unfinished.

Also if chapter 38 and a half is supposed to be the very sexy bonus chapter, I want to know what they consider to be sexy because I felt that bonus chapter was honestly a waste and wasn’t sexy at all. book had parts I liked, but a lot of it just dragged.
