i seriously get why some people were frustrated with this book, the endless push and pull, them never ever at the same place at the same emotionally? madness, pure and utter madness.
the classical stranded-in-a-manor-murder-mystery was tons of fun, though, and some parts made me so anxious i had to literally read in small-bursts with pauses in between.
also, like. there's a part somers says hazard is a joke, like “a stock character in a bad Western.” and bro, ain't that the truth. just how many times can a man growl and say he doesn't want to talk about shit, how many times can he be completely tactless and unable to talk to people and we can keep believing that he's a good cop???

oh man, this is good stuff. honest to god, good stuff. the slowest of burns, the tension is so so good, i have no idea how gregory ashe will top all this tension when it comes full circle, i just about want to smash hazard and somers together and get it over with, but man the TENSION, goddamn delicious, that's what.
i thought the glacial pace was going to tire me eventually, and yea, i can't wait to read it and see where this is going, but like. that's a whole of a lot of expectation to build. no idea how going it's going to be.
note to self: i tried to slow down my reading for this book, but i guess i really do need to swallow books up as fast as i can, otherwise i have a hard time grasping the feeling for them.

the mystery this time was a lot of fun, i love when it turns out that it was a conspiration, that was very Murder in the Orient Express of gregory ashe.

Then Hazard leaned down, kissing the one hand and then the other.
“I love you, Ree. You.”
THIS WAS SO SATISFYING!!!!!!! i could bawl my eyes out, i was literally screaming in my room throughout this book istg, when i could tell it was almost over and these dumbasses weren't together yet i was just about ready to riot, i could NOT go through any more time of them dancing around each other it would reach just epic proportions of slow burn, it was barely burning it was a lighter, it was just a lil match!!!

damn, this one hurt like hell. it had the same brand of desperate action, and the blows just kept on coming. it's insane how small of a frame of time each of these book encompasses, and honestly it's so many feelings and so much stuff happening at once that it can be kinda dizzying sometimes. it took me a longer time than usual to read this i think because it was just so intense all the time, there's barely any breathing room.
even if somers is charming as hell, allowing us to come up for air sometimes, it's exhausting to be in hazard's intensity and rage and, hell, he's such a brute. every time i think it's going to get old, that i'm going to get tired of him, but then we understand him better. and damn if that's not good writing.
i legit teared up with this book, which i still hadn't in this series, i don't think. but this was also the best mystery so far, again the emotional weight kept me from managing to dedicate any brain activity to trying to figure out the mystery, but this one truly threw me off the scent super hard.
also, can hazard please stop almost dying every book???????????

nico is 21, just starting his career. he's hot tempered, a perfectionist, a baseball legacy, desperate to prove his worth and hide the biggest secret he has trouble admitting even to himself. there's also something else entirely about himself that he's not aware of, something that jake can give him. the fact that he asks for it without knowing what's he getting himself into just makes it all the better.

Reading the Signs was genuinely better than i thought it was going to be??? i actually felt Big Feelings and was entertained by the smut, something that hadn't happened in a while. honestly, i've read so many sex scenes over the years that unless it's grounded into the story or with solid emotions, i just read it and don't care about it. this book managed to convey both.
also! this book Honest to God made me squeal and gasp and that's like, impressive???

this book was very Aware, I felt. there's a very grounded way in which Dani Alexander writes character dynamics and emotional descriptions, in a way that felt so very natural and truthful, I was so emotional and pleasantly surprised in so many bits, it was an absolutely delightful read.

i really wanted to like this but man, the typos, plot holes and underdevelopment of what could've been interesting bits really made this go from four, to three, to two stars by the time i finished reading.
