The Black Flamingo is stunning and incredibly beautiful. I devoured this gem in less than 24 hours!

This YA novel chronicles Michael's story from a young boy until university. You watch him grapple with his identity as a mixed race boy who discovers his sexuality at a young age. Although it tackles hard hitting subjects, you also see him spread his wings and stand up for himself in the end. This book is a powerful example of the importance of self love and finding your true self along your path in life.

A hopeful story told in beautifully written verse. I highly recommend!

If you haven't been convinced to pick this up yet, maybe Michael's fierce words will do the trick-

"I don't need to be a man for you or anyone else. I don't perform for you or anyone else. What I wear is for me. What I perform is for me. What I write is for me."

Period.

The Black Mirror-esque story I didn’t know I needed. What a wild ride this was!

Third Read (September 2024) : 4 stars I listened to the graphic audios this time around and enjoyed that experience! This is still a solid read. I’m excited to continue reading with the immersive audiobooks for this series read through ❤️

The nostalgia and cutesy high school first love vibes still hit for me. The sister relationship, Peter gaining Kitty’s favor, Dr. Covey being a total girl dad. What’s not to like about this story?

My previous thoughts still stand. I adore the song girls and love this series! Just the right amount of fluff I needed.

I love this book so much! I absolutely adore the song girls & PK is still my boy.

I loved this book so much!

I especially love the family dynamic between the Song girls. I think this was as much a family story as it was a romance and I adored it! Also Lara Jean is a fashion icon and I wish I had her wardrobe.
I watched the Netflix adaptation before reading the book and I loved how it was done. A great adaptation, probably one of the best I've seen!

Ok, now on to the next book. I can't wait to see what happens with our lovebirds!

Fourth Read (September 2023):
4.5 still stands. I still adore this series, LJ + PK, the Song girls along with the drama of growing apart from your childhood friends. This series is definitely a comfort read for sure.

What I’ve said before. All of it.♥️

Second Read (February 2020):

I am keeping my rating the same. I still have the same feelings about everything in my first review so I’ll keep it short-
I am still a PK stan, although if the snow scene is cut out of the movie, I will riot!
But also Team Kitty?! Yes ma’am.

First Read (May 2019):

Umm okay Johnny coming in hot with his cute self! I absolutely adored him😍
I disliked seeing our sweet PK loyal to a fault when it comes to (“the witch with a b”) Gen. We see it tear his relationship apart by keeping secrets & I hope he gets it together in book 3.
Also Stormy?! I don’t think I have disliked a character as much as I dislike her. Stormy’s dialogue was difficult to get through & I almost stopped reading because of her, but I’m glad I did because LJ’s story is one I need to continue on with!
I still want her wardrobe and baking skills in my life and I can’t wait to see how her story concludes in the next one.

Fourth Read (May 2025): 4.5 ⭐️
This series is just a comfort for me at this point. I adore the Song sister relationship. Forever a PK stan.
