These short stories are supposed to be told in the style of Dickens and revisiting some of his characters, but they are just awful. Bad writing, poor plot construction, boring and predictable all through. Urgh! Waste of time.
A very weird book with some pretty stupid philosophical ramblings with no discernible point or truth to them. Just a strange story with a disjointed boring plot. I was annoyed by the characters. I finally started skipping and skimming just to get through it. Egh.
I liked this one a little better than the first book in this trilogy; maybe just because I knew what to expect. I still love our main characters and the joking, understanding, and trustful dynamic they have. The story is a good one, but rather predictable. I liked seeing the characters pull strength from deep inside to motivate them on their adventures. I liked how resourceful and tenacious they are.
What a waste of great writing talent! This book is difficult to rate. The writing is superb! It hooked me on the third page, and I just HAD to know what that "Fog" was all about. The story is excellently written, and I just loved all the interesting and various characters. I can't even say enough about how incredible these characters are! This book has it all- plot, character development, pacing, and writing style. BUT... Ah yes, there is a BIG BUT...
The magic was too much like witchcraft. Creepy, dark, and sometimes nasty. NOT your innocent fairy-tale sort of magic. It ruined the whole book for me, which is such a pity because I really had been enjoying it. Oh, of course the good guys only practice good magic, but the Darkness in the story, and the way it was presented, was enough to leave a bad taste in my brain. Even the good magic seemed... ambiguous in its intentions. I'm very disappointed.

The writing is certainly brilliant, but I can't get past the anti-Christian philosophy. Reading it "got my dander up", and it was offensive and really irksome. Christians, or indeed anyone with faith in God, were portrayed as having lost their mental faculties because of their belief. I won't be reading anything else by this author.
Reminds me of Twilight in style and content. An old story told from an original perspective. It wasn't amazing, but there were many elements that I liked. It captured my interest and was a fun easy read! The focus was on characters and not much plot. The one thing that really saved the book was the edgy ending! A few minor swear words, so not one for the kids.
What a fun adventure! I enjoyed reading this one, although the writing had some problems. The author tends to "tell" instead of "show", especially in the beginning. Although the overall plot is fast-paced and wonderful, the details of the plot can get redundant; such as, they are attacked by the same monster twice, and they keep getting frozen over and over.
I love love love the little character of Clover! He's so sassy and quirky and hilarious! All the characters are interesting and endearing.
The writing is not amazingly original in the broad sense, but many of the details are quite imaginative and new.
I'll definitely be reading the rest of this series!

This book was okay. Not great writing, but I really loved the subject material. The story idea is fantastic- what if we could see and meet the angels whom we know surround us every day? But the execution of the story is mediocre. The plot is slow, and underdeveloped.
The language is vivid and taut. It rings inside you somehow. The story is raw and interesting. Loved it!
