Two little sisters travel to Mexico, where they are fascinated by a huge iguana and a colorful parrot. They try on sombreros, eat quesadillas, take a siesta, and dance to Mexican music.
I love the beautiful Mexican dresses that the girls wear to the fiesta! They remind me of traditional dresses I wore when I was a little girl living in Mexico. The sisters have such a playful energy, full of appreciation for the traditions and landscape of Mexico.
The illustrations are adorable. The artwork has bright colors and cute characters. I love the soft art style!
I can't wait to share this book with my two little blonde-headed nieces. They look exactly like the characters in the book!

Limbo and Lee are two cats who are friends. When Lee moves away, Limbo thinks she will always be lonely. But a new family moves in with a new cat and a dog, and Limbo tries to make some new friends.
This is such a sweet story about the loneliness and grief of losing a friend who moves away. I love the hopeful message that it is important to open your heart to new friends.
I like the peaceful mood of the story as the cats drink from the birdbath, and chase lizards, and nap in the sunshine. It's just adorable!
I liked the cute illustrations of the animals and children who all learn to make new friends! The artwork is full of energy and fun as the cats play together.

A little donkey makes a human friend, Ismael, and they enjoy the peace of the countryside together. But one day Ismael doesn't come back, and the donkey is saddened wondering where her friend could have gone.
This picture book is inspired by true events, when the author was in quarantine for months during the Covid-19 pandemic and was unable to visit his donkey friend in the country. The story is sweet and emotional, and an adorable animal friendship that will tug at your heart.
I loved the soft illustrations with attractive colors and broad country scenes. The art style is absolutely beautiful!

A little fish swims in with a hat that is not his own. He has stolen it from a much bigger fish while that fish was sleeping. But surely that big fish won't wake up anytime soon. And surely the big fish won't be able to find the thieving little fish as he hides in the seaweed. Right?
This picture book is adorable! With very little text, it weaves a hilarious story about the impossibility of escaping the consequences of your silly crimes. The little fish is so amusing and funny!
Some people might object to a children's book where stealing is treated so lightly and humorously, but I understood to be it like a toddler "stealing" their parent's clothing. He's like a little child running from their parent and "hiding" in plain sight, giggling behind a blanket, waiting to be found.
I love the simple illustrations and minimalist style. With small but effective expressions, the artwork brings humor and depth into the story.

Zeus is a hamster who rules over the Olympian gods, who are pets in an animal shop. Demeter, a little cricket, assists Zeus as he investigates the maze below the Olympian shop. Athena, the cat, and Ares, the dog, prowl around to find clues about how to defeat the blazing minotaur whose heat is making the entirety of Olympus swelter and sweat. But it is Poseidon, the ruler of the underwater kingdoms of fish tanks, who takes charge just when the Olympians are ready to give up.
I loved this second book in the series! It's such a funny and imaginative story. I loved the parallels to old Greek myths and adventures. This time Zeus goes on a quest to find a spear that will help him defeat the Minotaur just as Theseus did in Ancient Greece.
The characters are hilarious and adorable! It's so fun to see how they interpret normal pet shop things to some wild quest or magical object from ancient legends. Zeus has a retractable tape measure that he uses as a magical shield. Athena uses a robot vacuum as the famous ocean ship, the Argo, to get around the vast seas of flooring around the shop. It's really silly and interesting!
The plot has some great twists and turns that will keep the reader guessing, and a little bit of character development for our intrepid crew as they learn to get along and trust each other.
I loved the cute illustrations, and how it plunges the reader right into the action of the story. You can really connect with the characters when you see them drawn and can visualize just what they look like and what they are doing. I love the cartoony art style!
I think it's really cool that this book introduces young readers to some classic Greek myths in a silly way.

The mice are tired of the elephants walking around the jungle and not looking where they are going. They are worried that they will get stepped on, but the elephants don't care. So the mice devise a plan to force the elephants to pay attention and watch their step.
I loved the funny story, and the clever mice who outwit the foolish elephants. This story made me laugh!
I love the simple illustrations and minimalist style. The artwork brings humor into the story. I love the jungle backgrounds and cute animal characters!

Captain Marco goes on a voyage across the seas with his faithful crew of shipmates. They meet with great storms, sea monsters, and huge waves that batter their little ship. But nothing will stop Captain Marco and his crew from sailing on!
The reader is given instructions at the beginning for folding a paper boat to use as you sail along with Captain Marco. When the ship is damaged by a great wave, the reader is instructed to cut the back deck off your paper boat. Then we cut off the bow of the boat when Captain Marco's ship is damaged again. Eventually, the story leads us to cut into our paper boat at different places, revealing a surprise result at the end! The story and the paper boat activity are so cleverly written! I loved it from start to finish.
Captain Marco and his crew are courageous and bold. I loved how they never give up, and keep sailing through the seas no matter what comes. The story describes them sailing around China and Japan and the Philippines.
The art style is minimalistic with blocks of color. There are whales and fish and dolphins in the scenes. I loved the design of the crew with eye patches and peg legs and even a cute girl with glasses. They are all so varied and funny!
I love everything about this book!

Dr. Frankenstein becomes obsessed with the idea of infusing life into a created being, but when he succeeds, he is horrified at what he has done and runs from his creation, leaving it to fend for itself. Frankenstein's monster roams the country, searching for his creator and finding only hatred and fear in everyone he meets. He vows to get revenge on the man who made him, and goes on a killing spree.
I thought the artwork did a wonderful job of showing the gothic melodrama and darkness of the story. There are many scenes that use shadows to show the tension in the characters. The art makes their intense emotions explode onto the page.
Dr. Frankenstein is a wild character. He is a genius, and his mind goes skittering in all different directions. Like many highly intelligent people, he can be ridiculously stupid and obtuse about certain things. He is a chaotic person, and he just doesn't know how to handle the responsibility of what he has done.
I loved the way that the side characters are developed, and how their influence on young Frankenstein is explored.
The monster is also highly intelligent, but he uses his intelligence for evil. He thinks he is justified in murdering and getting revenge, since he has also been wronged. At first I sympathize with him, but when he starts murdering people, I end up hating him. It's really incredible character development to see the way he descends into violence.
I have read many of the other Manga Classics, and really loved them. So I came into this with high expectations, and I was not disappointed! It can be difficult to organize a classic into a graphic medium, but the story flows along wonderfully with most of the original dialogue from the original book. I really enjoyed revisiting this classic in graphic novel form!

A little cat roams about the countryside at sunset, observing how all the animals are settling down to sleep. The cows, foals, piglets, rabbits, and lambs are all going to sleep. Finally the cat arrives at home to nestle at the foot of a child's bed for the night.
The text sort of rhymes part of the time, and doesn't rhyme the rest of the time. Not really sure what was happening there. The story briefly describes the animals nestling down to sleep in their burrows, pastures, and dens. And there is a repeating phrase, "Even cats are going to sleep, as bedtime's nearly here."
The art style is soft and impressionistic with subtle colors. I'm not super impressed with the art; it's fine, but not amazing. Maybe that's just my own personal taste. It looks too messy to me.
I liked that each scene shows the focus of the next scene in the distant background. So while the cat is at the house, you can see a distant field of cows; and the next page is the cat in the field of cows. And in the distance you can see the next destination, the pig pen. It's a clever way to show the little journey the cat goes on to explore the countryside before bed.

Some little dinosaurs decide to play a counting game of hide and seek. The dinos all sneak quietly through the pages to find a place to hide, but dino number 10 is stomping onto the scene with a roar!
The adorableness is strong with this one. I loved the cute storyline, and the sweet little dinosaur characters. The story is fun with plenty of action and engaging rhythms in the narration.
The rhyming text is absolute perfection! It gives such a nice flowing cadence to the story. And I am very picky about rhyming children's books, so you know it's really really good if I am pleased with it.
The illustrations are excellent! The bright colors are attractive, and you can really feel the action as the dinosaurs run to hide. Each dino has a unique design and some little extra thing that makes them special. They might have glasses, or a bow tie, or a scarf around their neck. One dino even has a scooter!
This is such a cute book and very fun to read out loud. I can't wait to share this with my little nephew who is obsessed with dinosaurs!
