I'm so happy with this last book in the series. There were a lot of questions answered and mysteries solved, and somehow it all finally made sense. I loved seeing all the story threads from previous books coming together, and all the settings being revisited.
There was a big information dump near the beginning that got a little tedious, but at least all that stuff was explained finally. But other than that, the writing is (as always) funny, serious, well-paced, compelling, heart-wrenching, with a sense of urgency that keeps you reading.
I was completely riveted with the plot, the action, and the characters! I cried a few times, and I was laughing at other times. I was utterly invested in the story.
After sticking with these characters through 10 books, it was so rewarding to see them growing into these amazing people, coming into their own, and I was cheering them on, fighting their battles alongside them. They are like real people to me now.

I was also weirded out by the very ending when Bobby somehow got to go back in time and become a little kid again and live a normal life. That didn't make sense to me. Was he in some parallel existence? Because if they went back in time, then the whole timeline would be disrupted. Was it really Courtney and Mark and Bobby's family and everyone back in StonyBrook living normal lives, or was it some Solara-powered mirage of life to give Bobby the illusion of having lived that original lifetime? It just didn't jive with the rest of the story.

I was disappointed that Courtney and Mark didn't end up together. I never really shipped Courtney and Bobby, but Courtney and Mark made such a great team, and they were so cute together.I was also weirded out by the very ending when Bobby somehow got to go back in time and become a little kid again and live a normal life. A charming little story of a boy's search for his lost dog! With the help of a mysterious old man, he interviews various animals, including a bad-tempered cat, and pieces together the mystery of his dog's disappearance.
This short book has all the magic and charm I've come to expect from the author, with her own blend of delightful writing. Every word is crisp and cool, or warm and honey on your tongue. The smallest, most everyday things take on a glow when this author brings her writer's magic to them.
The sketches are lovely and fit perfectly with the story. The whole thing reminds me strongly of Beatrix Potter! This would be a great book to read aloud!

Frodo learns that a magic ring that was left to him by his Uncle Bilbo is incredibly dangerous. The wizard Gandalf warns Frodo that the Dark Lord is searching for the ring, and Frodo must leave his home in the Shire. A few of his loyal friends accompany him through the wilderness, hoping to discover a way to destroy the evil ring.
Every time I reread this trilogy, my heart soars and I get inspired! I just love the deep spiritual themes about friendship, grief, duty, honor, love, and courage. There have been many times in my life when I have faced a difficult circumstance and I found courage and hope in the examples of these characters. There is so much meaning behind every scene. There is always another layer to unpack and explore. I especially find encouragement in the Christian themes and imagery. Tolkien's writings are saturated with faith.
There are so many wonderful characters in this series that it is impossible to choose a favorite! Each person is incredibly deep and complex. They all have their own histories and philosophies. They speak many different languages (Ooh, those delightful fictional languages of Tolkien!) and they have their own cultural traditions.
The writing style is so beautiful! Every page flows along in a wave of rich language and the reader is swept away into a world of imagination and noble ideas. The genius of the writing style is that it does not TRY to sound fancy. There is a mixture of more formal language and common language that reflects the personality of individual characters or the mood of a scene. The result is a perfect blend that never feels stale.
The writing also brings forward a lot of emotions! Every time I reread it, I laugh and cry and clutch the book in suspense even when I already know what is going to happen. I grieve with the characters and feel their joy. It's just that powerful!
I love that so many of the settings focus on trees and stars and the ocean. There are many exquisite descriptions of the scenery, but it never feels boring. Whether it's a beautiful setting or a dark and nasty place, the writing places you right into the middle of the scene.
The plot is so exciting and complex and interesting. Every little detail fascinates me. There is a lot going on in this plot over a long span of time, and yet the pacing is excellent. All the threads of the plot and the different journeys of the characters come together perfectly in the end.
The world building and magic system are phenomenal. No other fictional world ever created has the history and the languages and the traditions that Middle Earth has. Tolkien spent decades building this world and every tiny detail is captivating.
What a complete delight!

Another good one in the Uglies series. I enjoyed reading it, but now the Pretty lingo is stuck in my head and I find myself saying things like, "That is not happy-making." or "Are you totally brain-missing?"
Not cool. Stupid futuristic lingo. It gets annoying.

I didn't like it as much as the movie. I had watched the old black and white movie years ago, and enjoyed the movie very much b/c it has a happy ending. The book has a sad ending very different from the movie. bleh.
I like the happy endings! I need them!

Every single book in this series is amazing! Every chapter blows me away. I never know what is going to happen next, and I'm always surprised by the impossible plot twists.
This time Bobby is fighting to save the territory of Ibara and the small village of Rayne. Ibara seems like a peaceful paradise, but this territory holds a secret that even Bobby will have trouble with, and the Traveler from Ibara wants nothing to do with him. The evil Saint Dane is up to his clever tricks again, but Bobby is having trouble telling right from wrong, and there is no way to figure out how to counteract Saint Dane's evil plans.
While Bobby is fighting for Ibara, Mark and Courtney are stranded in the past on First Earth in the 1930s. Mark is in danger of being murdered at sea, and it's up to Courtney to stop the invention of the robotic dados.
It amazes me how all the story lines and characters from different worlds come together so beautifully in all these books. It's like this intricate web of plot and people that draws in so neatly; it leaves me in awe of the scope of the writing. Simply brilliant!
I love how we are dragged back and forth between dizzying triumph and devastating defeat countless times in each book. Just when I think the heroes have won, there comes a terrible plot twist that tears out my heart, and keeps me reading into the wee hours.
Bobby is such a wonderful main character. I feel all his ups and downs. I cheer for him, and weep with him. He's so deliciously human, making foolish mistakes, feeling impossible combinations of emotion, and through it all he's so wonderfully heroic. I simply adore him!
Can't wait to read the rest of this series!

Fantastic! I loved the realistic dynamics between characters. The plot is thrilling. The details are imaginative and intriguing. Devoured it in 2 days!
