“I’m a hundred and twenty pounds dry, thank you very much. Now, as you seem to have selected option B, I’m really hoping you’ll tell me what you know, and I’ll still thank you, and we’ll part on a better understanding of the world - that understanding being that no one likes to be asked to smile.”
Murder at Haven’s Rock by Kelley Armstrong
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
A town is being built deep in the Yukon wilderness, a place for people wanting a fresh start. The goal of the town is not to be found.
There’s one simple rule, stay out of the forest.
When two workers go missing. Two of the towns people are called in ahead of schedule to help find them.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
This is technically the first in a spin off from the Rockton series so you don’t need to read that asides before going into this one. For me though I feel like there’s so much I’m missing from the MCs since I started with this one.
It’s alright as far is mystery and thriller go, but def not my fave.

Listen, I keep trying classics and I keep finishing them saying they're not for me. I'm not smart enough.
I repeat this process over and over again because I never learn my lesson.
This one is no different. I can appreciate this book for what it is and when it was written but .... just. no..

“Certain stories are recounted so many times that they become parched of meaning, stories like those concerning the girl and her wolf in the woods, the cinder-smudged princess, the monstrous beauty who vomits pearls with every sob.
Others, however, are kept from taverns and wine-warmed conversations, catalogued but rarely recited. Complicated stories with no easy ending, stories that remind us karmic debt is a contrivance of despair, that there is nothing fair or sweet about this world.”
The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw
Narrated by Susan Dalian
QUICK SUMMARY
Everyone seems to forget.... Mermaids have teeth.
A mermaid on the run, is partnered with a mysterious plague doctor with their own darkness. They then stumble on a village of children who are ages, and thirst for blood. With the three "Saints" who control them.
FINAL THOUGHTS
This book was one I was so excited for. It came highly recommended. I was also a little hesitant because I did not love Nothing But Blackened Teeth.
But this one is more up my alley, the writing is beautiful, the narrator did a fantastic job.
MY ONLY COMPLAINT is it was too short.
There are certain things we all know, but we don't talk about them, because there's no reason to talk about them. We just know.
Dead Eleven by Jimmy Juliano
QUICK SUMMARY
There's an island that no one knows about, and few people fine. The island is living with a strange obsession with a year 1994. Clifford Island, Willow Stone is looking for the answers after the tragic accident costing the life of her son. Soon after arriving, she realizes there's something not quite right. Then five weeks after arriving, Willow disappears.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Thank you @NetGalley & @DuttonBooks for this copy of #DeadEleven in exchange with my honest review. I came for the synopsis and read the book in a day because I immediately NEEDED all the answers. This book shows multiple POVs telling the story and the journey to answers. I LOVED how true to 1994 this book stayed, like POGS. The best way I could describe this book is if the shows Lost & From had a baby. Over all I loved this story.
The worlds "only" non-denominational exorcist. This book reads like a demon slayer version of Gabby Bernstein. I found myself rolling my eyes more time than not.
Now I will be the first one to say that I believe in higher power, whether it be universe or whatever. I believe in SOMETHING. But this book was just too much. This book needs to be read with a grain of salt. She's very full of herself and as Caleb as said, we love it.. because it's hot garbage.
I can't say I loved it, because if I hear the word Spirit one more time I might scream.

I think that most people would rather face the light of a real enemy than the darkness of their imagined fears.
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks
QUICK SUMMARY
Consisting of a number of interviews from all over the world who have taken part in one way or another in the war. The authors goal is to preserve these memories to ensure no crisis like this ever happens again.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I started reading this ebook and then ended up tandem reading with the full narration cast audiobook. I have to say if I had to choose between the two, hands down the audiobook would be my choice. I am such a sucker for a full cast. In this book we have different views from all different people who have been involved in some way with the war. The interview format of this book gives you snippets.
“Because fuck them. Fuck Earl, fuck Wonderland, fuck Seaside.”
Wonderland by Jennifer Hillier
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
After leaching her old detachment behind for a smaller town, this new deputy chief has found more than she was expecting in this tourist town where it seems the amusement park, Wonderland, calls all the shots.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
At first this book didn’t catch my attention, it’s not even that it’s not good from the beginning, it was just missing something for me. That quickly changed, and this book had me suspecting everyone and questioning every choice people made. I love thrillers when I don’t see it coming until it almost hits me in the face.
I am not sure if this book got lost in translation for me, but I spent a good 20% trying to figure out who everyone was. By that time I didn't even care about any of them or their drama. I came for the murder and was very let down by it.
