I think we can all agree Eric in pink lycra was the best part of this book.

Such a unique and heartbreaking story. I loved reading about the unconditional love between the girls and also the relationship with their younger sister. Although the poetry-style writing was quite refreshing — as in: I’ve never read something like this before — I think I would have preferred it if the story had been written in prose.

(I do actually enjoy reading poetry from time to time, but like, regular poetry. That’s what threw me off while reading, this in between poetry-prosy writing style.)

Wow. This made me feel all the feelings.

Also, Lottie’s speech about Female Chauvinist Pigs was awesome.

I loved the ending, even though a little more closure would have been great. But I get why it was written like this. It works for the story, so hey I’m not complaining!

To conclude this super short and incoherent mess of words you can’t really call a review, I’d like to share this quote by Amber that made me think, just for a second, that we were actually the same person:
”I’m not a cynic. I’m a terminal pessimist with an edge of angry realism.”

’You can’t measure harm. It’s unquantifiable, like love. Like fear.’

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

‘I wonder if there’s a secret current that connects people who have lost something. Not in the way that everyone loses something, but in the way that undoes your life, undoes your self, so that when you look at your face it isn’t yours anymore.’

Overall, this was a nice story. I liked Ellis’ journey and personal development. And I liked Tal. What I didn’t really like was the heavy focus on the religious stuff. For me, as a non-religious person, it was difficult to relate to that. I can respect the strength and comfort people can find in religion, and that’s great for them, I just can’t imagine ever feeling like that myself. Still, it was interesting to read about the Mormon faith, as I was pretty ignorant about it (to get an idea how ignorant: I watched “Sister Wives” on TLC a few times and that’s about it

‘If I were on fire
who could I count on
to water me down?

If I were a pile of ashes
who could I count on
to gather me in a pretty urn?

If I were nothing but dust
would anyone chase the wind
trying to piece me back together?’
