Entertaining dystopian story that moves beyond the expected tropes we've come to expect from YA fiction. Erin Bow remains one of my favorites. Worth the time and effort.

I'm annoyed that I didn't read this as a kid. Girl who rather be a knight than what's expected of her in a "traditional" female role? This would have been perfect for 10-year old me. Alas, I am older now. Yet, I still enjoyed this title and will be reading the other books in the series as well as other titles by Tamora Pierce. Great story and a quick read. Fantastic!
