I got up to about page 120 and lost the ability to care about these characters. Everyone felt wooden. I might see the film adaptation but this was a miss to me.

I got to about page 90 and I realized how much I don't care. I know that this is an expanded prose of Ms. Anolik's Vanity Fair article and I wish it just remain that. The story of Eve Babitz is interesting enough but not enough for a full-length book. And if Eve's story is told through her stories, then I'll go explore those instead.

Alyssa Cole has become my favorite author. I fell in love with her writing with the first Loyal League book and she has continued to impress me with each new book she publishes. The characters are strong and the romance never feels fake. Everything about Cole's writing is organic and I can't wait to see what she does next.
