Warning: It was impossible to do this review without giving away a bit more than I am usually comfortable with about the first book. Please be prepared that a few scenes from book 1 may not be as surprising after reading this - but I promise to leave as much unsaid as possible.

After Annika and Talvi are finally reunited - this time in her world, everyone thinks things are going to be just grand. True love conquers and all that. Too bad true love isn't paying much attention at the moment. Their time apart has caused Annika to become withdrawn and more distrustful of Talvi with every day. When he shows up unexpectedly on her doorstep thinking things are going to go right back to normal, he couldn't be more wrong.

This sets the theme for most of the book, and while it was well played out and very realistic emotionally, I did get a little tired of their constant battles about trust. The highlight of the story was their time in Paris. Both come to some very big realizations about each other and themselves. With most of this story taking place in the "real world" I missed the fairy creatures that I had come to love and was very excited when they made their few appearances.

While the book remains focused on Talvi and Annika, there were a few pages here and there dedicated to a few of their companions from book one. I wish there had been more - hopefully a book three will bring everyone back together again.

Overall, a very good book 2 for a series, with another cliffhanger (grrrr) so I will just have to go read book 3 so I can find out how this all wraps up.

Skeptic starts off running introducing you to Elise and a few pages later, Dakota. Elise is a larger than life character, playing the part of a paranormal debunker - even when she knows it's all real. Dakota suspects something's up, especially when he overhears her talking to herself in a haunted kitchen, but he doesn't know how to make her open up to him.

After the introductions, we're jumped right into the middle of the adventure when a witch comes astrally projecting into Elise's life to claim vengeance for her sister. Things begin to spiral out of control for Elise and Dakota goes along for the ride to try and protect her. Enter the bad guys - can't tell you who all of them are, but I was very surprised near the end when they had their big reveal - never saw it coming (major kudos to the author).

The only real downside, was that the hot and heavy scenes weren't between our main characters at first - and I really wanted to see them hook up. There is a good reason it was done this way, but it just rubbed me a little too much in the wrong way to completely accept it.

The whole story was wrapped in a very climatic ending that had me reading way past my bedtime to try and finish. I definitely wasn't going to put it down. Make sure you have plenty of time to finish the book - after the half way point you won't be able to stop.
