This was such a cute story! It was mix of cozy mystery and paranormal romance - so I'll be interested to see if the romance comes up in the rest of the series as well. The two genres were combined beautifully and readers of both will love this story.
Southern girl Verity Long has found herself on the wrong end of her small town's opinion - even though she isn't really the one at fault. It turns out her next best friend is actually a ghost - well, she's in for a lot more than she ever expected. When she sets off on a ghost hunt - not for her ghostly friend, but with his help, she finds out there might still be a shot at love at there for her as well.
Verity was a great character. I loved how she rolled with the punches and somehow managed to take all things in a stride - just like any southern lady - she invites it in and asks if it would like some tea. Nothing ever seems to completely phase her - at least on the outside. Ellis Wyatt is the last person she expects to be spending time with, but she quickly discovers that he's nothing like she expected.
This was very close to a sweet romance, with just enough heat to really appeal to the romance reader. There's lots of lovey moments that are just enhanced by the spooky elements from the mystery. The mystery is a great one as well with a very unexpected villain. The down side was that there was really no way for the reader to predict the bad guy. There's no real evidence until the very last second. But the chase was still a lot of fun.
I hope the next books in the series can pull everything together as beautifully as this book - I loved it.

When Planets Fall is the first book in a space saga that starts on the planet of Scarlatti. There are three races that live here, and they all seem to be in constant conflict and live in communities that resemble war compounds or complexes. There's a really fun cast of characters, and they all have a bit of a surprise hidden around the corner of their personalities.
There are a lot of things going on in this book, and it sets up the series for some really interesting adventures. We have a three-way tribal war between humans and the two other species occupying the planet, a girl with metal wings, and several power-hungry leaders. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what this book was about. Several storylines seemed to be worked together and at times it lost its way a little.
The discovery of the starship should have been a major turning point in the story, but it was usurped by the actions of the Herons (one of the species living on the planet) and the subsequent rescue of Malani. The starship seemed to get lost in the background, and I really wanted to see more about it and how Breaker repaired and fixed it up.
Malani was a bit of an odd character, but as we learn more of her past, we see why she seems so damaged emotionally. Her story was my favorite. She was a great balance of strength and weakness and had some fun tricks hidden up her sleeve. The relationship between her and Breaker was confusing. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to see a romance between them and want them to be together or not.
Overall, this was a fun story. It lost it's way a couple times and meandered around before coming back, but maybe those wanderings will be important down the line. I'm anxious to see what happens to Breaker, Malani, and their spaceship next.

The Library is winning. Two of Jess's friends have been taken from him and may no longer be among the living and Jess is set off to join the fighting ranks - not what he had originally hoped for. But Jess and his friends aren't quite done yet.
Much of this story involves trying to free certain companions and running away from the Library higher-ups that are trying to capture/kill them. At times this gets just a tad repetitive. It was more action than a lot of deep story development. It seemed like Rachel Caine needed to get the characters somewhere, and she used this book to get them there without any other real direction.
The end of book one will really leave you hanging, and I was really glad that I could just jump straight into book two of this incredible series.

Rehvenge is a complicated character. His dual nature is a constant struggle and the source of a recent medical issue with his drug of choice. I really enjoyed learning more about his history and life. At first, he didn't seem like the right person for Ehlena. She was a gentle and loving soul, which is everything that Rehvenge appeared not to be. When they meet, however, they have this wonderful clash of personalities that just works for both of them on so many levels.
As with the rest of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, there is so much more going on behind the scenes. We get to see into the Sympath colony and it really helps to explain a lot about the way Rehvenge lives and his attitudes towards much of life. His history is a little creepy - especially when we find out more about his family, so be prepared for an "ewwww, gross" moment or two.
The story is full of twists and reveals and the plot behind the scenes continues to move forward. I feel like something big is about to happen and I can't wait to find out what it is. While we get to see almost all of the brothers and a couple of the girls, I really wish we got to see more of the women in their lives. They are all such awesome characters, and I want to see more about what they are doing.

The conclusion to the Half-Lich series was a good one. Everything has been leading up to this moment, the moment where Chaos wins or loses, and of course, it's up to Alice and the newly found Order of Void Weavers to stop all the bad stuff from happening.
Once again, the authors have made the city of Ashwood and its residents come to life on the pages. From the random people on the street to the crazy ghosties and other various bad guys that have come through from the other side to the good guys that Alice has somehow managed to gather to fight them. Everything leads up to one epic battle that really didn't go the way I thought it would at all.
There's plenty of magic and special powers. I got to find out more about some of the bigger side characters and what they were and what they could do. But in this big epic battle, it wasn't all about who was the strongest. It came down to outthinking and just flat out refusing to back down.
I'm very excited that the Ashwood world is going to continue with a new series - not one revolving around Alice and friends - but I'm hoping it's just as good.

This was not what I was expecting at all. I'm not a big comic reader but the idea behind this really drew me in. I had to read through it a couple times before I figured out how the story was being told. It was done quite well, but at the same time there didn't seem to be a whole lot there. It's part one of six, so I'm hoping there's a lot more beef in the upcoming editions.
For big fans of the Red Rising world (which I am), it was a little look into how the Sons of Ares started. You get this story from reading the books, but it's told in retrospect, whereas the comic tells it in more detail as it occurs. I'll keep going so I can see how it all plays out, but I'm not sure how I feel about this overall yet.
