This was a solid volume if not a little predictable.
So with the death of a ghoul, Touka decides to take matters into her own hands. She goes RIGHT after the doves themselves. Slaughtering each one who did Hinami wrong and killed her mother and who are still after her. After some sneaking around all the pieces are set and the doves come face to face with the Ghouls trying to decide who will face who and what their death will mean.
Good: Loved some moments in here. My favorite with Touka going full badass and showing how strong she is. Also learning more about the Doves and seeing how they use their weapons and where they got them from. Hinami growing into her own too was nice.
Bad: Kaneki is kind of annoying here. Trying to make a statement is fine but why do it so...uselessly? It felt kind of a anime cliche 101. I also thought the sneaking in to the base was dumb and that the characters were smarter than that.
Overall the weakest volume so far but still very enjoyable. I've seen the anime so I know things are going to heart up soon but this one was kind of a lul in comparison to the first two exciting arcs.

Moments of fun spread between a lot of dull, uninspiring storylines.
So this is when two worlds collide. Yes, I don't blame Dwayne for too much at fault here. A lot of shit was happening at the same time world wide in the universe such as Final Crisis and Fall and Rise storyline. So it's not all on him but man oh man he could have made the villains or evil doers more...interesting? So the Shadowking dude comes in, and Dr. Light is there to face off, with the other leaguers and honestly every issue boils down to just a big dumb brawl.
Good: The comedy still hits at times. Firestorm being the funny guy. We also get some good character interactions with everyone in the group. The art is also pretty solid.
Bad: The storylines are dull and lifeless. Villain of the week feel just like can skip right over any issue. The characters seem to act out of character at times (This is more because editorial) and the fights have no energy in them.
Overall another meh chapter. Better than Hitch's Justice League but this is pretty weak overall. A 2 out of 5.

X-Force/Cable: Messiah War
Craig Kyle, Cory Petit, Sonia Oback, Ariel Olivetti, Mike Choi, Larry Stroman, Clayton Crain, Christopher Yost, Duane Swierczynski, Joe Caramagna
Well that was funny as fuck.
Okay so the X-Force team gets sent into the future to save Hope, Cyclops daughter. Cable is still protecting her and is like no-go, she's mine to protect. But of course still have that asshole Bishop like "NO SHE MUST DIE" because he's a fucking psycho. Oh yeah and did I mention Apocalypse kid is here? I never even heard of this dude but he looks like a guy straight out of game of thrones mixed with Final Fantasy 12. His freaking armor is huge, some world of warcraft shit. Anyway he's omega powered of course. Oh yeah and Apocalypse returns. Oh and did I mention Deadpool is in here? That crazy fuck is back.
Good: I really enjoyed the inner dialog moments of each chapter with different points of views. My favorite being Hope, Wolverine, and Cable. The stakes actually feel pretty high and everyone is brutal here so no nice X-Men to be seen. Also this is pretty damn funny. Deadpool makes me laugh, wolverine makes me laugh, and phraser makes me laugh. Everyone made me laugh really.
Bad: The art flip flops between Cable series and X-Force and it doesn't match well. Cable series is bright and with a lot of life, X-Force is dark (on purpose) and gritty. It just doesn't add up well. Also apoc's kid is a fucking loser and hated his "I'm all mighty speech" that he gets from his dad with his dumb armor. Also the ending was meh.
Overall this was a lot of fun, fast paced, and funny as heck. Sure it had a weak ending and weird art flip-flopping but overall it was solid good little cross series event. A 3.5 out of 5.

Man reading a lot of places broken down into sectors or districts lately. Well I guess it's like the real world. Anyway we're thrown into a world about two handymen who go around doing jobs. One is a gigglo and other is a "Tag" or "Twlight" I think. The names are being thrown around but think of a hyper violent badass warrior with a sword. They also have a whore (no she is) who joins them after the first chapter and things become a bit more interesting because from her eyes we see the world of "Gangsta" grow where they put us in a realistic setting yet some hyper over the top fight scenes are being played out.
Good: The fight scenes. Easily the best part of the manga. They're hyper violent, badass, and look great. The characters all work well together, all feel different, and build upon each other. Also the design is great, a very realistic world we can relate to, with super over the top style that you just have to love.
Bad: The dialog sometimes falls back to anime cliches. Also the flashbacks are really hard to follow. Probably on purpose. But damn it I can't understand what is happening at all.
Overall it's really solid, violent, and fun. Lots of blood and cursing so be ready for that. I'd go with a 3-3.5 out of 5. It's entertaining enough for me to rent the next two volumes from my local library.

If a teenager asked me "What's a good Marvel book to pick up" Ms. Marvel would come to mind right away.
I believe 5-10 years from now Ms. Marvel will be a big enough name that she'll just be known. Especially when she gets her own show or movie. She's cute, funny, and has a lot of heart. As the days are dwindling down in the Marvel universe thanks to Secret Wars, the end is coming. Ms. Marvel spends her last day trying to do what she loves most. Protecting and helping people. She takes the first two issues helping Captain Marvel save people but it's the last two issues of when she spends time with her family and friends that really strikes gold.
Good: The issues with her spending time with her family and friends is perfect. I know it's a superhero comic so we need some fighting but G. Willow Wilson does her best work when it's just talking with people. A lot of growth there and while aimed at younger audience anyone can relate too. Also the art is still great. The Cap Marvel issues are cute too.
Bad: But saying that the Cap Marvel issues have a lot of fights and they're not all that entertaining to me. Also the last issue in here feels extremely out of place and boring. It's just a spider-man issue with Ms. Marvel in it but after the issue before it feels so out of left field and unneeded.
Overall this was another solid, good, volume of Ms. Marvel. I think this series really will work best with the teen crowd and they'll love it the most like I did Runaways and Ultimate Spider-man. For me, it's a little too light and goofy at times, but it does make me smile, and that counts for something. A 3 out of 5.

This was...good. But I wanted more.
This is 4 issues, two being main links to Metal, the other being more call-back or more context for the overall Metal Story incoming. So we'll focus on those two issues which is The Forge and The Casting which largely focus on the "darkness" coming. Now I've read "Dark Knights Metal" so I know what's already coming but this was a very ominous way of building up suspense. The reveal of a certain someone being alive, bringing in Hal to give a larger scale danger feel, and of course Batman who seems to be freaking out all builds towards something "big"
Good: I liked the fast paced "danger" feel the issues were giving. I also enjoyed watching the reveal of someone being alive, Hal coming to earth to find out, and signal trying to piece together everything. Also the looming atmosphere of death was great. The art is also real solid.
Bad: It is A LOT of exposition. Like a TON. So much that any person not keeping up with comics in last few years might be like "What the fuck?" and it's hard to blame them. Also, some of the story is hard to understand due to flip flopping between three different characters.
This is a good "it's coming" type of book. We know Metal is already half way through so crazy shit is happening but this is a good jump on point. You might be a tad confused, and I don't blame ya, but it'll get you set up. I'd recommend reading Snyder's run before this and maybe Morrison's (if you can get through it all) to fully enjoy it. I liked it, but could have been better. Anyway, ON TO METAL!!!

Why? Why the fuck did I think this would get better? The last volume wasn't terrible but this sure was. overbloated, boring, silly, bad dialog, and so/so art. Not worth anyone's time.
Well you take a little bit of dbz, and you put a lot of gore and violence, and a ton shit of cursing and you get Luther Strode.
One day a boy decides he has had enough. No more being a puny little punk who can't pick up a chick or fight worth shit. He reads a book, and he becomes...A SUPER SAIYAN WARRIOR. No really, he becomes jacked as fuck and is able to take bullets in the chest and walk away. This series of stories is basically 3 parts. First being his origin of Luther Strode, next the middle adventure of him deciding who he is the myth or the man, and the final one being his journey to peace. By the end of this bloody adventure will Luther be a new man or will he be the killing machine the magical book has made him?
Good: The art is pretty solid. Sometimes the faces and such look really bad but the fight scenes have some excellent scale. Showing off whole city blocks or buildings getting destroyed is a real treat. Some of the dialog while bad (I'll get to that) is mostly fun and easy to read through. Also the themes of moving on and becoming one with yourself is solid enough.
Bad: Some of the dialog is awful. Mostly coming from Luther's girlfriend. Little to try-hard on the funnies. Also the story is just simple. Kill, kill, and...oh yeah kill more. Luther I never felt was in any danger after volume 1. He just simply became so strong it was kind of like "Cool fightscene" but no stakes. Also the ending was kind of rushed and didn't feel the greatest conclusion to a over 300+ page story.
Overall this isn't bad. It's fun, bloody, and insane fight scenes. I'd probably rate the first story around a 3.5 with part 2 being 3, and part 3 being 2.5. So overall a 3 for the whole story.

I'm going to be honest, this was a bit of a letdown.
So as most people know by now I love Brubaker. Even at his worst (Something like this) It's still pretty entertaining. I also think Sean is one of my favorite artist of all time. So why didn't I love this? I guess it's because I hated every character.
Now this isn't a comic where it paints you likeable characters. Everyone is basically a villain, and it's about a retired villain who decides to do good, but then it doesn't really focus on that. Instead it focuses on a mad scientist control over clones, and I guess domination, but it's also slightly confusing, and it really doesn't have any rhyme or reason compared to amazing works like Kill or Be Killed or Criminal.
Good: The art is fantastic of course. Brubaker is also a solid dialog creator giving us plenty of laugh out loud moments and solid dialog. I also enjoyed the main character's view points, even if they are somewhat depressing.
Bad: The storyline is a jumbled mess with too much focus on character you don't care about. Also it feels very rushed as if it should have been 10 to 12 issues but got compacted down to 6. The ending was unsatisfying as can be.
Overall this is a decent fun little novel but it'll be one I'll forget about unlike the other stuff Brubaker has made in the past. I'll give this a 2.5 out of 5.
