Brian Azzarello is always a gamble for me. I didn't love his Joker, Enjoyed his Luthor, liked half of his superman, and now we get to Batman. Is it worth checking out?
So Batman Broken City is taking bruce, putting him in a batsuit, and making him be a detective. But it's more like "hard-boil" type detective. It feels really out of character. However, I always let myself try new takes so I thought of this as a elseworld. A different Batman. And I was seeing if that would work. After a kid witness the death of his parents, similar to our hero, Batman goes around the city finding out what happened. You run through various villains but none are really memorable. By the very end we get the truth about what went down but did it nail it? Did it work?
Good: I like some of the art. Especially the sewer scene or the scene with the flashbacks. I also thought some of the dialog was good. Batman speaks the entire thing, and while it's out of place, works. It does start to wear thin at the end but for the start it's interesting.
Bad: I really didn't like the overall story. The plot was kind of boring, the villains not scary, the end result kind of messy, and Batman being so different didn't click with me. The also "edgyness" of it kind of made me roll my eyes, reminding me of"Joker".
Overall this was a okay batman story but I'll probably forget all about it. It tried to be something different, and for that I'll give it credit, but for me it just didn't cut it. A 2/5.

It's very rare for me to buy single issues. I'm a trade paperback type of guy. I like complete arcs. However, I really do enjoy a lot about Watchmen, I love most of Johns stuff, and Superman has been great lately. Put all the elements together and I couldn't wait 12+ months to get a paperback of this one.
So Doomsday Clock is really intriguing first look at where the Watchmen left off. The world is in chaos, even more so than before, and people are going nuts. Dr. Manhattan has gone missing, Rosachach is back (but a twist is there), and we got Oz, who is a giant piece of shit still but reveals something very interesting. We're also looked deeper into the villains of the watchmen universe, and just like the original graphic novel, they are as nasty as we would come to expect in that world. By the end we see how it connects to our current Rebirth DC world and it got me super intrigued.
Good: The art is wonderful. A old school feel with all the modern touches. The character designs are great and hearken back to the original but with enough new that we can enjoy it for newcomers and old alike. I really dug the humor, just funny enough, but not trying too hard. Similar to the original. The tone is very much Watchmen and we can see it coming into DC's Rebirth universe will fuck it up for sure. The ending made this a 3 to a 4 simply because of the implications of where we are going. Also, as far as a set up chapter, it does it very well.
Bad: I didn't love the reveal with Oz, as I kind of saw it coming, and it's used a lot. However, I did find it humorous the Karma caught up to the fuck.
I'm very excited to pick up these issues monthly now. I know some people don't want Watchmen to ever come back. I never read the "Before Watchmen" stuff either so I dunno what they did there. However, for this, I'm really loving the direction and can't wait to see it go deeper into it.

I do find it funny there a whole hate groups on Youtube hating Marvel for talking politics but never raise their voices on DC doing the same thing in Green Arrow (and action comics, batgirl, aquaman, and much more) ANYHOW...
Ollie is the protector of his city. So when he sees a cop use his power the wrong we he brings a stop to that. Soon after the police stations catch wind and it stirs up a lot of talk of "who's right" and "who's wrong" kind of like the society we live in today. Then another Archer comes into the fold and betrayals, twist and turns, and death soon consumes Green Arrow's life once more. This guy just can't catch a break huh?
Good: I love talking social issues. It blows my mind sometimes of the way people view the world but I'm always eager to hear their view even if I disagree. So seeing a full issue highlight a lot of real world problems but not just settle on "well this is wrong" but more of "this is how they view it" and not feel heavy handed is nice. I really love the art here too, it's always so stylish and clean. Also Emi returns, sorry for spoilers, but I love this girl! Also that ending was...wow!
Bad: I didn't love the way they made a certain villain in here. He felt kind of lame compared to how they've done him in the past.
Overall this was super fast paced fun action adventure story with political side of things (which Green Arrow usually is, calm down people) and really just a joy to read. It helps the art is fantastic too. Can't wait for volume 4!

Another great X-Factor volume. At worst this series is good, at best? It's amazing. Right here is some good stuff.
This volume really focuses on the after effects of House of M. Mutants are freaking out. They're are far less of them now days. ON top of that the volume also has someone go after Layla, we have someone offer Gudo a new job, and our favorite pair of kickass girls go on a mission to save some kids. Pretty much everyone is busy in this, but things about to go insane, and by the end we have some pretty great moments.
Good: The fights are great. The girls teaming up are hysterical. The twist with Layla was crazy. The whole thing runs so well in pacing it's never really boring. I just love the bickering between all the characters and Multiple Man is fucking FUNNY.
Bad: The villains are okay in here. What they did with Quicksilver here was weird. I don't know how much I like that.
Overall it's great. X-Factor remains to be the best X-Men comic I've ever read. It's funny, it has heart, and the characters are just too f'ing fun. This is another great volume, 4 out of 5.

I could have sworn I read House of M but I guess not. I read Avengers Dissembled and then skipped over house of M and just read some individual x-men type titles.
So we all know what comes from House of M. "No More Mutants" the famous words utter by Scarlet witch, the power force of the Marvel Universe, and like The Flash, can alter and fuck up the entire universe. She can alter reality. That's what House of M is actually about. Scarlet Witch is going nuts, like not able to control her OWN reality, and begins to alter other ones. So the X-Men and Avengers decide they have to do something. This worries quicksilver and he runs to tell his sister she has to run, escape their clutches, or she'll die.
Then it happens. She alters reality and BOOM we're in a whole new world. A world I'd actually like to revisit one day. Peter Parker grows up without losing Ben and Gwen and has a baby boy. Wolverine becomes the new Nick Fury. Luke Cage...well he becomes a undercover cop. See the world is supposed to be what the character want or hope for, and everyone seems happy. Then when they begin to snap out of it they know who's behind it and decide to do something about it.
Good: The storyline is super fun in my honest opinion. I love "what if" universes and this was great to see how the characters could so radically be different. I also loved wolverine in this, and I usually dislike him. Peter has to deal with some dark shit in here and it also works really well. Amazing Bendis is Peter's best writer even for the 616 version. Also how awesome was Magneto in here? His last few pages are great. I also liked that this had big after effects after done.
Bad: The art wasn't all that great at times. The covers are fucking wonderful but the inner coloring is a bit off and rough at times. I also thought a little exposition heavy at the end. We got that the mutant race was in trouble no need to explain to us that it is. You can just show it.
Overall, this might be one of my favorite events ever. Super fun, solid dialog, lots of great moments from characters I usually don't care for (Wolverine/Magneto) and the "what if" world is pretty awesome. So yeah, super enjoyable. I'd give it about a 3.5 but I'ma hit it to a 4 for rating system cause usually events don't work for me!

This one pains me because I read the opening and loved the words Sean Lewis was saying. He obviously has passion for this project, he worked hard to make it, and I admire that. Saying that...this didn't work for me at all.
The sketechy art brings you into a broken world. It starts off confusing and basically stays that way till the end. We have a woman protecting a baby and then gas mask people show up. Once we get past that it basically just becomes a big cat and mouse game with killers, evil people, who are mostly just nameless. Then we get into the backstory and...yeah.
Good: The idea of it.
Bad: The art is pretty bad. It's a style, but as most here have said, it's pretty awful style for this type of story. If the story itself was easier to follow and made sense I could enjoy the art. But with bad art + confusing story + weak dialog it all mixes into a big old blah. I couldn't get behind this title at all because I gave no shits about ANY character.
Overall this was pretty big disappointment. I wish I could like it more because I feel Sean was trying but I just could NOT get into it at all. I'll still check out future projects by Sean though!

Dark Avengers is a fun series. It's that simple. If you don't take it too seriously you're just gonna have fun.
So you still have these batshit insane people all together fucking around and trying to be "heroes" but you know they can't. I mean you have a emotional Venom, a insane Bullseye pretending to be Hawkeye, and a sexy slutty Ms. Marvel. I mean you know this shit is about go upside down. Then bring in Molecule Man who's insane power levels for a baddie and the Dark Avengers are in trouble. They might have Norman as a lead but he ain't no Reed Richards. So who do we call? The Big S, you know him, Sentry to the rescue!
Good: I really do enjoy the banter. It's so fucking funny watching Bullseye be a complete twat to everyone he meets. The fights are fun and flushed out well. Molecule Man makes for a very different and interesting enemy. The ending is exciting and makes me want to read the Siege Event.
Bad: It's very short. 4 issues. Over before you know it. Also the banter, while fun, can get a little excessive and the background to Victoria wasn't all that interesting for me.
Overall still a ton of fun. I really wished this series went on for about 4 or 5 volumes. It makes me laugh, easy to read, and fun to watch. Too bad it's over.

Volume 2 down...holy smokes this was ALOT of shit haha.
So this is when things get closer and closer to the big reveal of the Blackest Night. The rise of the dead lanterns! Before that though we get a little revised history of Hal Jordan, his secret origin, and how he became who he is. This was interesting for me because I have never read Green lantern before volume 1 Omnibus. Then we also get the big moment of revealing all the different lanterns. Blue, Orange, Purple, and more. Of course none are really getting along and they bickering and fighting but then...
THEN IT BEGINS. The rise of the black lantern. Truly a fucked up individiual who begins the blackest night. A event to bring the dead back, zombiefied, while going after all our heroes. In this big event the entire world is effected from Flash, Hal, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more until it all comes down to one BIG ass brawl to save humanity.
Good: The blackest night was highly entertaining. The fights were fun, the stakes felt real, and the aftermath was extremely interesting. Also the origin story was very enjoyable for someone like me who doesn't know much of Hal. I also enjoyed learning about all the emotions of the lanterns and seeing them all become their own corp. Also the Orange corp is funny as hell.
Bad: it begins to stretch a little. At points I just wanted to skim the chapters but afraid to miss anything important. I also thought the whole John side story was odd and didn't add much to the overall story. The pacing had issues unlike volume 1 where felt it was perfectly paced.
Overall this was still great. I loved this event too because it was balls to the walls fun. I hope volume 3 lives up to the first two! A 4 out of 5.

I can see why some would dislike this. The overall tone feels very similar to Identity Crisis. With Ollie being one of the main view points, something dark happening at the start the events, and the ending result leaving most in shocked or upset. Luckily for me I actually enjoyed IC ALOT and it's one of my favorite DC events.
The story starts off with heroes wanting justice. Hal and Ollie have had enough after losing Batman/Martian Man Hunter. So they decide to jump ahead of crime and hunt down villains. However, as the pieces build together, we see a new threat. A enemy from the darkness is coming and he sure as fuck is ready to face just about every single hero out there.
What I liked: The art is pretty solid and fits the overall tone. Ollie is always a very enjoyable protagonist as he's very human yet still feels like a hero. The interaction with him and Hal is a huge plus. I also loved how the superheros here had to ask tougher questions than usual and decide on a plan of action.
What I didn't like: Felt like the cast was too large and a lot felt like afterthoughts by the end. I also thought the ending went "too dark" to give it a nasty ending. I don't mind characters dying or hurt but the death of someone in particular felt...forced.
Overall I enjoyed most of this story. It flowed well, the fights were good, art was solid, and the dialog pretty good. I would rate it a solid 3/5 and say it's worth a read for a darker feel of the DC Universe.
