I can't believe I'm giving a Scott Lobdell book a 4 out of 5. I just can't fucking believe it.
Red Hood is now working with Artemis (The sexy Amazon Warrior) and Bazarro (The superman without much smarts) and they are doing GOOD! But you know these three can't do that for long. The first issue focuses on Bizarro and Jason deciding if he should kill the beast or not. The next few issues work with mostly Artemis past and by the end of the arc a lot changes but inside that arc you really see her and Jason dealing with life experiences and their past and how to overcome it. Then last issue in the volume us spoiler full so I won't talk much about it but has some of the best sad panels I've seen.
Good: I can't believe how much I'm connecting with everyone. Even Jason, who's always been my least liked in Bat Family, is really coming around. Bizzaro is a fucking joy and I love him. I even really liked Artemis journey and her acceptances of the past but willingness to move on to the future. Also the art remains solid and stylish.
Bad: The emotional moments or choices can feel a little on the nose. Also sometimes the reasoning behind what characters do doesn't make much sense. Maybe over the mystical artifact makes people bad thing.
Overall this was really fucking fun. I can't believe I enjoy a Scott Lobdell book or a Outlaws book but here we are. I hope it continues to be one of the best and most surprising DC books so far. A 3.5-4 out of 5.

Finally a Supergirl book I can FULLY recommend. Why is that so hard to find?
Supergirl is a lot about Kara trying to find her place. Nothing new there. The book even opens up with "Where do I start? Oh yeah, same old story." and it knows it can't reinvent the wheel so instead it polishes it and makes a fun as heck read for one of our favorite female badasses! Kara going through learning who she is. Not in the sense of being a alien, which she gathers already. She's trying to find her place among her peers, her family, her purpose.
This is a origin story similar to American Alien. We get to know Kara more than seeing big epic fights with her unstoppable powers. This is about a 16 year old girl (maybe? She's not sure when she landed one earth in earth years) but she's ready to try her best to adjust. When loss and depression hit maybe this teenage girl's super powers won't do her any good.
Good: The art is great. At first I thought the faces looked odd but once I got into the groove loved how everything looked and flow. The scenes in the skies and such are breathtaking. I also thought the dialog, for the most part, was sharp and playful. The banter was current and the characters, especially supporting cast, all did well. I really enjoyed Kara's internal thoughts and hearing how she deals with problems was refreshing.
Bad: The two flaws I saw was sometimes the dialog was pretty bad. It wasn't often but the outburst from Kara's friend could have been written better. Also the pacing is way off. FAR too short. This needed atleast 2-3 more issues to really hit all the right notes.
Overall this is a really enjoyable fun origin story about Kara (more so than "Supergirl") and I'm very much okay with that. I think Mariko is a very solid writer, and she was just a bit rushed in production but I recommend this one to any fans of superhero stories with a lot of heart!

I'm making it official. Brian K. Vaughan is the greatest comic writer ever!
I can't believe I never read Ex Machina. Actually, I'm kind of glad I didn't. I think when first read Brian's work (Runaways/Y the Last Man) I wouldn't have understood much about what is happening. This is a political drama, mystery, superhero story all combined into one little neat, interesting, different than anything I've read before, package.
Mitchell Hundred is the main character here, a guy who gains the power to control machines. He tells them what to do and how to act. It's pretty insane and wickly cool idea. For awhile he goes around saving people and being "The Machine" and helping the best way he could. However, he starts to see he's limited on who he can help and how that way so he wants to run for office. This is when it gets real interesting.
When a killer is on the loose you begin to question what the fuck is happening. Who is bad? Who's good? The political nature in itself becomes enthralling and by the end you want answers, and you get some, but many more open up.
Good: I admire the way this story is told. Hopping back and forth can hurt a story big time. However, the way this is laid out is super simple and easy to go with but keeps you intrigued. The chapters before 9/11 events give you chills, the ones after give you a dreadful feel, and it all works so well. The art is great and fits the overall themes and message the comic is trying to tell.
The characters interactions kept me reading every single line. I love good debates and political fights and to me, I listen to all sides, and make my own view on that particular subject. I love that Hundred is basically in the middle on most things, keeps it highly entertaining.
Bad: None
I really think this is one of the best series to ever be created based on the first volume. I can only hope it keeps up. However, after this, y the last man, Runaways, and of course Saga Brian K Vaughan is hands down my favorite author in comics (and maybe all time) because he continues to make some of the best stuff around. Thank you! 5/5

Okay I said volume 2 was my last but I figured I'd give it one more try. But when got a super confusing dumb storyline that alters time and makes it hard to keep up and random big fucking invasions keep happening it gets really really dull. Plus Batman still acts so different I can't take him serious. Yeah...come on Priest please come to save this series.
Well this was very...Warren Ellis haha.
Karnak is part of the Inhumans I guess, but he's not like them. He doesn't have powers. He wasn't given the mist like they were as a child. He is a human who's learned the ways of powers on his own. Kind of? He basically has the power to cut through anything. This makes him a very vicious fighter able to pretty much handle most situations thrown at him.
Karnak is hired by parents to find their lost child. This very very fast paced comic gets Karnak on this mission with Shield right away. What we find out is way worse than what we except. A simple mission becomes a physiological warfare of the minds and some downright fucked up gorey moments I wasn't expecting.
Good: Once issue 1-2 go by, 3-6 are pretty insane. I mean shit is happening so quick I sometimes had to re-read things but damn, it's pretty insane. The fights reminded me of that one issue of Moon Knight Warren did. Downright fucked up and vicious. The ending is also tough to swallow and makes you think for a bit.
Bad: The first two issues are kind of dull for me. I wasn't sucked in right away even with the flashy fight scene in issue 2. The dialog can also be kind of annoying sometimes as it sounds like two monks speaking half the time. The character of Karnak is also pretty unlikable though interesting.
Well never really read a Inhuman comic but this one is so off the wall and off beat I had to check it out. As always with a Ellis title I was entertained if not weirder out. I think it's worth checking out just for some of the most fucked up fight scenes. Oh and that ending. Loved it. 3 out of 5.

Well least it's better than Titans huh?
Listen, I don't like Teen Titans the show. I know the fanbase is huge, my wife even loves it, but it was never for me. I didn't grow up reading the teen titans or watching it. So when I get the comics I want to see what all the fuss is about. I do hear John's run is where it's at so one day I'll get to it, however, let's talk about Rebirth.
The star is Damien. This is probably why I enjoy it more than others. I love Damien. He's a little shit, with a big heart, who uses his humor to ignore the flaws of himself. He's also a badass warrior who made his cousin go half blind. So there's that. After Damien kidnaps the Teen Titans he tells them they will become the NEW Teen Titans! However, we the League of Assassin's comes into play things might not go as easy as one would hope.
Good: The art is pretty solid. Everything is bright and fun, the fights are well done, and the character designs are all solid (raven is hot). I also thought Damien giving his speeches felt the most like a Robin so far. The team working together to take out the assassin team was enjoyable as well.
Bad: The way they forced them together felt a little odd. Beast Boys Humor is kind of dumb (I guess that's normal though?) Also the art, while good at most times, can look a little weak. I feel like there was even a moment or two that they used the same panel art with slightly different colors in a fight.
Overall it was fun time but not super amazing. I'll probably read least volume 2 or maybe even 3 to see how it ends up. For now it's enjoyable! A 2.5-3 out of 5.

Well this was pretttttty bad.
If you didn't know Corpse Party is a long running series usually placed on handheld consoles. It's about a bunch of school kids trapped in a alter dimension with killing and deaths happening suddenly. Ghost and worst are coming out of the woodwork and hunting our students, usually murdering them in very disturbing ways. By the end it's all carnage and mayhem but does it hit you in the emotional feels?
Good: The artwork is fine enough. Also there's some screwed up deaths. One in particular where someone gets crushed to death is pretty hard to watch. Also the book is pretty damn big for the price you pay.
Bad: The dialog is beyond terrible. Cliche anime dribble left and right. The overreaction to things that aren't scary, or the under-reaction to things that ARE, is so obvious it hurts. The characters are all pretty unlikable and bad. The sexual moments are lazy and placed throughout. Also, I know Japan is cool with the legal age being 13, but man, these girls look 12-13 years old and showing panty shots and boobs is really not needed.
Overall, this is pretty bad. It's a quick, easy, and sometimes brutal read but most of the time it's boring and really forced. I'd recommend just skipping this one to be honest. I dunno why I bought two volumes. Now that I think about it I'm kind of a idiot.

I read this WAY back in the day when it first came out. I was trying "DC" for the first time really. Like trying my best to understand it all. That was a bad idea. I didn't know what the fuck was happening.
Now? Years after getting into the DC lore and stories? NOW I understand and NOW I really really enjoyed this Flash story which is a bit of a two sided story. A bit of a "Hey Barry is back, yay!" and "Thank you Wally for being a awesome flash for 20 years."
Barry is back. He's a good guy. But now we get a little deeper into his mind, a little darker past, or should I say way darker? Yeah let's go WAY darker. Once he returns we learn something is very off. Someone is pulling the strings. WHO? Well I can't just tell you. However, Barry isn't sure he wants to be Flash anymore. I mean Wally had it handled so why should he come back? Well we find out here, kind of, and it's a BIG FLASH MAYHAM!
Good: The art is great. Everyone has their own unique flare and look. The effects look great and the fights feel powerful. The storyline is pretty awesome goodbye for Wally as THE FLASH but also a nice welcome for Barry to return. I also enjoyed a new IMpulse coming onto the scene and really dug the hell out of the villain in here. Without spoilers he's a real asshole and that's what works so well.
Bad: The story is NOT for new readers. It will confuse you. You'll be like "Who the fuck is flash's kids, kid flash, and bart? Wait what? I thought he was older" and things like that. This is for fans of Flash for awhile. Also the ending kind of is a reset for the series but thanks to Flashpoint it kind of means very little to the status change.
Overall this was great fun time. Sure, it feels a little meaningless once Flashpoint hits but I guess you needed Barry to return, to give him a motivation to want to reverse time, to get New 52 rolling. I mean for some people they hate that but still, it happened, so deal with it. Overall a Nice goodbye to Wally and probably the last story with him that feels meaningful. A 3.5-4 out of 5.

Let's be real. Nobody knows or cares about Cave Carson. Funny enough, he's actually pretty cool dude.
So this is another one of Young Animal line books and so far they've been crazy weird, but enjoyable read. Cave Carson fits right into that. We have a man, Carson, who has a Cybernetic Eye. With that eye shit gets pretty freaking weird once we get deeper into the series. However, the focus of the series is really about family and legacy. About your past, and what it makes you today. It's about also shooting a bunch of mofos because Wild dog is in this bitch and he ain't playing.
Good: Really fun side characters. I love Wild dog in here because he's freaking nuts. Also his one liners are great. Even better his Cave's daughter, Thula, who is so freaking hot yet badass. Her banter with not only her father but Wild Dog is wonderful. The colorful world is also a lot of fun to get sucked into and view.
Bad: It's a bit jarring at first the way the series throws you into the mix. None of these characters are from other series you might know. Their stories are weird as shit, and honestly, it gets weirder as it goes. By the end I loved the characters but the story was kind of a mix bag for me.
Overall it's wacky, makes no sense sometimes, but it's colorful, fun, and nuts. I really enjoyed the trio here as they all played off each other well. Also more naked Thula please. Yes I am perverted. Also Wild Dog. More of him. In everything. A 3.5 out of 5.

I just met Kyle Starks the other day, such a nice dude, and very funny.
Anyhow, is this story good? Well it's about Hobos. The main one, Jackson, is on a mission to Rock Candy Mountain! Exciting huh? But we also have THE DEVIL chasing him down. However, he made a deal with Jackson. For his soul Jackson will be unbeatable in a fight. He is the ultimate warrior. So while Jackson travels the vast world with his book that points towards the Mountain he must come against some tough fights, the biggest being Satan. Is it possible to make it!?
Good: Really got into it around issue 3. Once Satan comes the series becomes super exciting and fun. The dialog is usually strong, with some laugh out loud moments. The story itself is also solid and fun kind of adventure.
Bad: THe art, while decent, I don't love. It's sometimes hard to tell who is who. I also thought the first issue had some dialog problems, trying to be "edgy" with a lot of cursing. It settles down but the start is glaring.
Overall I had a lot of fun with this one. It's not mind-blowing but if looking for a hobo adventure verses the devil get ready to enjoy!
