Harbinger has been a pretty fun series to read. I thought 2 was by far the strongest volume with 1 and 3 being solid but not as good. So how's this one?
Well we have the Renegades, those are the good guys, on the run from the evil Toyo Harada. Well kind of, because if read Harbinger War you're like how the fuck did they get here? It opens so nicely, where everyone has the "perfect" day just chilling and having a blast. Then shit gets really really fucking dark at the last page and opens up a whole "What's real what's not" situation that is kind of a mindfuck in both good and bad ways.
Good: The opening issue is fucking funny. It's so dumb and over the top I laughed a lot. I also really loved the ending and made me want to keep reading right away. I also really liked Peter's backstory and also the new little girl with powers was siccccck.
Bad: Toyo Harada feels misused. Like I get the whole "he's only bad because" magneto stick but it's kind of meh. Also the art goes from bad to good, to great, back to weak. It's really odd every issue feels different quality.
Overall I give this a solid rating. I wish this series was mindblowing but as it stands it's still enjoyable. On to the next one!

So this is a perfect example of where comics can have downfalls. Comics are 50/50 to most people. Good art work + good storytelling = Key to an amazing comic. However, when one is vastly better than the other, we in trouble.
So Truth: Red, White, and Black is taking true events with a fictional world. What if, back in WW2, we took black soldiers and tested them? Now that actually HAPPENED. Now say we did that in Marvel universe with the Captain America formula? This is really a character piece and period on a dark side of America. Watching these people treated like test animals and viewed as nothing as experiments to create more super soldiers is what it's about and ot great results the storytelling pulls though.
Good: The storytelling is really well done. Gives you multiple characters you can attach to and gasp once you see what happens to them. The ending hits pretty hard to and you really get to know what people went through and the symbol of Captain America meant to be people.
Bad: The art...is really not my style. The faces are goofy, the way they move feels weird, I just kept thinking of a saturday morning cartoon and not in a good way. It was a sharp contrast to the story being told.
Overall I liked the story a lot in this just not the actual art. WHich is a shame, I really wanted this story to have a stronger art style to show the horrors of it all. A 3 out of 5!

Who knew Sam Wilson would keep up such an impressive run after volume 2? Not me.
So this volume deals with the fallout of Rage. As you know he was trying to stop two super villains, lost, and while trying to leave gets beaten down by the Americops. This is all about Sam trying to help the young man get out of jail but Rage wants the people to see how the system works. How corrupt it is. Then in the shadows you see Steve's plan paying off and the volume ends ultimately on a sour note with the loss of a hero we need at a time like this.
Good: I really do love Sam's internal thoughts and dialog. Him trying to figure out how to fix up his life, and help the public, without getting harassed all the time is really well done. You feel for the guy and by the end you feel his pain. Rage's outcome is both heartbreaking and brutal to watch. The last few pages make us lose some hope yet somehow sneak a little in? A odd combination that they somehow pull off.
Bad: The pacing feels a bit rushed. I wished secret empire came out a few months later just so we can flush out Sam's loss of will. Here it feels like it happens all within a day or two.
Overall, I really really enjoyed volume 3 to the 5 of this Captain America run. Does it hit the highs of Ed's run? No. However, it really is very interesting political drama and by the end I felt the spirit of Captain America in Sam. Can't wait to jump into Secret Empire. A 4 out of 5.

This is probably the weakest arc of Peter's run so far. Saying that it was still enjoyable but a little distant from what I want from my Batman and Robin series.
Now I get Robin being dead would make it a bit hard to have the dude in here but the title results to be just another Batman story. Actually, it's all about Two Face and his slow and dark tale into what he is today. Do you know Mckillen? No. Me neither. However, she royally fucked Dent in the ass. Not only did she burn his face but she killed his wife right in front of him. Pretty screwed up huh? Then when she gets out of prison two face wants her dead. Batman like "no go hoe" and the war begins. Also there's a one shot of Dick's first week working with Batman as Robin.
Good: That one shot was REALLY good. I loved watching "week one" of Robin's adventure. I also enjoyed seeing a focus on Two face as I think he is a pretty interesting character. The ending sure was screwed up too.
Bad: Mckillen family is so mobster 101 psycho I just didn't care for them. Also the way the storytelling was shown was a little off. The art sometimes also suffered from too cartoonish.
Overall this wasn't as fun or emotional as the last few. Still enjoyable and can't wait to jump into volume 6 but this was the weakspot for me.

Holy shit...I mean I liked Vol 0 (Madrox story) but goddamn, talk about captivating from beginning to end huh?
So here we have the X-Factor group coming together. They are basically a Mutant group trying to work together as a detective agency helping people. So think almost like Angel but darker and hits some great surprise twist as it goes. From issue 1 onward I knew we were in for a treat and once we get into the thick of things, the themes that go so well with X-men (Such as racism and sexism), you really begin to see the bigger picture here. Kidnapping, murder, mystery, this first volume has it all and without spoiling a thing it deserves your attention.
Good: REALLY well done dialog. Each character has their own feel and by the end you can relate or understand to each one. Complexity to each character is there and one by one you learn what they show isn't as simple as what they feel. All of them have dark hidden secrets, while none are perfect, they are all somewhat admirable. The tension and twist in each and every issue really keep you going and had me guessing what would happen next. Laughed, scared, happy, sad, all of these emotions rolled with this volume.
Bad: Uhhh sometimes the art is hard to tell what's happening? That's it.
This is intense, really well done, series that sucked me in 100%. I enjoyed volume 0 but this volume blew me the fuck a way. I think this needs to be read by any comic fan who likes mystery, but also dealing with really well done characters with very very solid dialog. A 5 out of 5.

Well well well, this was goddamn FUN!
Okay so Norman Osborn is like "United States? You my bitch now" and basically somehow convinces everyone he is a good guy. Sounds fishy right? Trust me everyone in the universe is saying that but the people, the PEOPLE believe in him. Holy fuck this sounds more like our current president situation than anything else. How did you know Marvel!? HOW DID YOU KNOW!!!!
Anyway Norman says we getting the boys together (and girls) to create the team of Avengers no one ever asked for. That's okay though because together it's a bunch of psychos who might kill you for some pocket change. Doing that they use hidden figures to hide behind. Such as Bullseye being the new "hawkeye" and Venom being the new "Spider-man" and introducing a ton of crazy big situations with some excellent fight scenes.
Good: This shit was entertaining from begining to end. I could read Norman dealing with this group for hours. Also the fights are crazy big and fun. The chemistry between the characters is top notch. Oh yeah, let's also talk about Sentry. Was he fucking scary or what? I need to go back and re-read New Avengers again.
Bad: The Doom stuff was a little much. It slowed the pacing down just a tad.
Overall I had so much fun reading this. It's not mindblowing but so goddamn fun that I can't wait to read more. I stopped reading Marvel around Secret Invasion and only got back around 2013. There's a lot I gotta go back and read and I'm pretty excited!

Volume 2 was one of my favorite storylines in Criminal Guess what? Lawless was the reason. Guess who's back? LAWLESS MOFOS! Hell yeah.
So this storyline picks up where people, ones who aren't supposed to, are getting picked off one by one. I mean shot in the back of the head, tricked and beaten to death, just some horrible ass deaths. However, it's against people who deserve it. Do we have a little bit of a hero on the streets? Lawless is sent to find out what the fuck is happening. When you dive deep into the mystery it gets really really screwed up.
Good: The biggest pro to this volume is Lawless. He's such a badass without trying to be. I also loved the mystery feel here and by the end there was no happiness. Rarely ever is for Brubaker but this was def hard to see unfold at points. How insane was the very last trick too the mob boss huh? Damn so good.
Bad: If you're looking for happiness you won't find it here? Can that be a negative. Eh fuck it.
This is as good as volume 4 but for different reasons. This is a slow burn, mystery, that ends up being terribly sad and hits the emotions we all want it to. I'm going to give this volume another kickass 5 star rating cause it's that good. I <3 you Ed!

Greg Rucka is slowly rising to my top 10 writers of all time. I read a few duds but the more I read the more I'm enjoying his work. Especially his creator own stuff.
The Old Guard takes a idea you've seen before. What if you couldn't die? Immortal? No. No quite. What if you could die, over and over again, and just keep coming back? Interesting huh? Now take a group of individuals who give you very distinct different view points about their powers and their life up until this point and you have a crazy team all together in this full, explosive, very bloody, action packed adventure.
Andy is the main character here and she's pretty much that badass miltary solider you'd expect except she isn't the norm. She fucks, drinks, and kills. She's also 3,000+ years old and when you can never die is there much else to do but drink, eat, and fuck? No right. Well except kill motherfuckers who need some killing. Anyway she is sent on a mission and betrayal and twist begin and end up giving us some crazy high action packed fighting and whooping ass.
Good: Let me just say I love the cast here. All of them. The all shine, all have their moment, and the more you get to know the characters the better you enjoy them. Also the dialog is fun and bouncing, everyone just having a good old time. There's also some great twist, and some that actually made me re-read it.
Bad: The art can suffer at moments of high action. Sometimes had trouble following it. Also the first issue or two I was unsure about this and kind of started similar to every other action movie/comic but soon changes. Still, the start is shaky.
Overall The Old Guard Book 1 is VERY much worth owning. I really hope Greg continues this one and was just enjoying every moment with these characters. Give me more! 4/5!

Rick Remender continues to give us the Venom goodies. It almost makes me want to continue reading Venom but I just know it won't be as good...is it?
So this volume is the second half of Rick's awesome run of a character you never would normally care about. The first few issues are kind of the over the top cartoony stuff I didn't love. It's Venom teaming up with a few other somewhat heroes like Ghost Rider and fight against some evil demon thingy. I dunno. These issues I kind of just breezed past because I didn't care for it. Once we get to Flash by himself it starts to show why this series is so good. Venom is dealing with the fallout of his father's death from the first volume plus dealing with Betty and then the Savage Six (think sinister six but after venom) come after his family and shit really starts to build up. By the end Venom finishes his mission and you feel it come full circle.
Good: The internal thoughts of Flash really keep this series high. I love hearing his thoughts and mindset with all this crazy shit going on. The fights are epic and sometimes really brutal. This ain't spider-man kids! Also the pacing once the first few issues are out of the way are amazing and really ends on a high note.
Bad: The first few issues are goofy and not a good jump on point. I mean you should read volume 1 first anyway, but the crossover event is something I could have lived without to be honest.
Overall I enjoyed the fuck out of this just like volume 1. Rick Remender actually made me LIKE Venom. How is that possible? Either way I don't think I'll ever love a venom series again so I'll keep this close to me and give it a very high 3.5, almost 4, out of 5.

I told my friend I'm finally reading Infinity. His response? You better fucking read Hickman's Fantastic Four before Secret Wars or you won't feel the FEELS!
So I went back and decided to follow the reading order online. Surprised it recommended starting with Dark Reign but screw it. I loved the hell out of the Dark Avengers so why not...right?
Well this was my first official fantastic four comic and...it's okay. What's it about though right?
Reed is kind of figuring out why the hell Secret Invasion and Civil War happened. What he could have changed himself. Then you have the Richard kids coming home to Ma and Pa. They are super smart, super cute, badass little mofos. Then you got Reed by accident putting Sue, Johnny, and the Thing in some kind of weird loopy world where they travel through various worlds similar to their own but in different themes and structures. Weird huh? Welcome to Fantastic Four I guess!
Good: LOVE the kids interaction. They're adorable and so cool. I also really enjoyed Reed and Sue interaction as they actually felt like husband and wife. Osborn is always a pleasure to have in and the art is solid.
Bad: The crazy loopy weird ass story of traveling through different times was kind of tooooo cheesy for me. I guess I got to be more open minded getting deeper into the series but I was kind of bored. Also, the ending felt rushed.
Overall not a horrible start but I wanted more. However, I hear it only gets better from here. So here we go into the fantastic four world! 2.5 out of 5.
