The end of the war. Well, actually the next volume is the "war" this is the last stand. But not much of a last stand cause we know Brianic won't win. We also know this takes place right before New52 so this shit about to all be erased. Superman is not winning this fight by himself. We also have Superboy get some screen time, or paper time, whatever. The biggest player is Brianic's kid. Brainy? Yeah. He's the star of this.
Good: The fights are still pretty entertaining. Superboy has a cool moment here. I actually liked Brainy here. He had a cool moment as well. I like internal struggles, those scenes always help flesh out characters.
Bad: The art still falls short at times. The wrap up felt a little too neat. I also didn't feel Zod's character made any sense. All loss of progress with him.
This event for Superman is okay. I can see why they wanted to reboot his character. However, he gets a lot worse in New52 so maybe that wasn't the best idea.

This was...a whimper of a ending. So right off the bat the story starts with Superman busting through a wall claiming he'll stop Zod. That's right. Just burst through the walls while Zod's entire army is there to stop you...what? Then have Supergirl do something dumb and cause the death of the entire race. Not a spoiler, we knew it wasn't going to last. Then people fight...a lot...yeah. Everything wrong with Zack's vision of Superman is present in this story.
The Good: There's a bitter sweet moment with Clark and Kara. There's also a cool moment with Superboy (So weird there's ANY good moments with him) and that's about it...
The bad: The fights are bland and boring. The ending feels wrapped up and silly. The Zod planning makes no f'ing sense and when they get to earth it just comes down to kill everything but with no planning. This is supposed to be a general...right? RIGHT!?
Yeah overall this whole event wasn't great. Some moments of fun to be had but if you never read this you won't be skipping much.

Very fun series. As expected. Spider-Woman is a sexy big booty warrior and this is no different. Before we get to her getting prego after Secret Wars this was a fun little adventure. seeing Jessica Drew go back into street level fighting is a ton of fun. Then you have Ben (From Daredevil) and a villain to join her party and you have plenty of fun times to be had.
Good: Cute and charming. Lots of fun things happening here, good humor, and Jessica is a main star worth following. The start of the series is very strong.
Bad: The last issue is very rushed and just thrown together for Secret Wars. Disappointed in that issue.
SO yeah, this was fun and enjoyable. Nothing mindblowing but a good time none the less. A 3 out of 5.

20th Century Boys is a extremely well done series so far. Even at it's worst it's still good. At it's best? Amazing. A lot of people compare this series to IT and it contains a lot of storytelling elements of that but with it's own characters and twist.
This volume actually contains a lot. We get to see the future world a little more, an escape, and the state they're in. More so we get a lot of background here of the bloody new years night. We lose a major character and we begin to piece together what happens to make the future events all kinds of fucked up.
Good: The cast of characters keeps growing and you feel for characters you had no attachment to before. I also felt sad about the future state of one character. The future is still entertaining too and the parallel feel of past, present, future is all well told and done.
Bad: The manga artist seems a bit of a "audience" member but not all that compelling. He is easily weakest part at the moment.
Overall this is a great volume that gets the plot moving. The death of a character, the future outlook, everything is building up. A very very solid 4 out of 5.

Before this the only "Green Lantern" title I read was "Green Lanterns. I enjoyed that enough but I felt like I might enjoy it more if I go back to where "Green Lantern" turned from "Okay" to Amazing. This collection is the time Geoff johns (Who slowly is becoming my favorite DC writer ever) came on and decided to give Green Lantern some love. You can tell from the start Johns LOVED the Green Lantern Mythology and decided he was about to expand that.
This is great for people who've never read Green Lantern before. Sure, there's elements, characters, and stories that happened that connect but they catch you up on most of it in short ways, with very little exposition. The story is really the Rebirth of Hal and him getting his groove back in the Corps. A lot of people want him dead for what he did and then Sinesto comes into play and shit gets really out of control.
Good: The whole second half is epic as fuck. I mean it's all out war and the Green Lanterns are at the center of it all. You really see the war of all wars here. I also loved how each Lantern was different in their own respectable ways yet still worked all individually. The art was top notch and some of the fights were near perfection for me. The chemistry between the cast is wonderful and everyone felt like they had time to shine. Also for 80 bucks (amazon price) you get 1200+ pages. That's awesome.
Bad: None really. Little heavy dialog at times + some filler chapters.
Overall this collection is a must buy for both fans of GL and not. If you want to get into their lore this is the place to start. John builds a wonderful compelling world worth researching and checking out. A 5/5.

New writer, new artist, so sometimes that can be a very good thing or very bad. In this case, it's good, but in a different way.
Swamp Thing remains a character I love but not loving most of his PLOTS. His design is unbelievably badass, his story the same, and the way he can fight is pure awesomeness. His stories? They can range from good to almost great to poor. This volume is broken into 3 different arcs.
First arc is all about Swamp Thing trying to Visit Superman. Within that he meets scarecrow who sprays him with a toxin making Swamp Thing dream and in turn ruin the city. Superman must stop him without killing him. Next up is about "The Seeder" the villain for Swamp Thing who can grow plants but they aren't as they seem. As Swamp Thing goes to a village with a new tree planted he meets Hellblazer, who in return doesn't favor the big green because of "EVILNESS" around. Last is a one shot of Abby, Alec's old love, dealing with the Rot king who is trapped. You get a bit more past, which is actually pretty screwed up.
Good: I enjoyed the Superman Arc. Watching a more lighthearted fun version of Swamp thing is interesting. I love him interacting with Superman too and his questioning to another Alien who fits in with humans. I also enjoyed the one shot which brought more character to Abby and the terrible Rot king.
Bad: The arc with the town going all crazy because of the tree planted by the Seeder wasn't all that interesting. It showed what the Seeder could do but honestly he isn't really shown much and consistien doesn't add much.
Overall this is a solid start. I'd tip it close to a 3.5. I did enjoy a lot of it but the middle arc didn't do it for me. Saying that Soule writes a much more FUN Swamp Thing and I think with that I'll continue on with this series.

Peter continues providing the strongest run on Superman probably ever. I mean sure, there's been better Superman STORIES, but they usually consist of 6 to 9 issues. This run has been amazing and only continues to carry that on.
This time we focus our attention to the title character only. The first one shot is all about Superman finding himself and meeting his old friend Swamp Thing. After that we're thrown into the main storyline which focuses on Superman meeting multiverse versions of himself. Someone is hunting the supermen and Superman from main earth is here to help them fight back. The very last issue is all about Jon with his friend going through a spooky adventure.
Good: The art in the swamp thing issue is fucking AMAZING. Also love Superman speaking with Swamp Thing since they are so different yet so alike. The multiverse storyline is fun and exciting and a big fan service moment for a lot of Superman fans. Getting to see all the different Supermen is tons of fun and them fighting together is badass.
Bad: Jon's storyline here is a little iffy. I didn't hate it but wasn't engrossed by it. Especially after a one shot with swamp thing which was great, and a really solid entertaining multiverse storyline, this one came off as weak. Very halloween special type issue.
Overall Superman remains some of the best Rebirth has to offer. I really hope it keeps up because I do really like the Superman character and really glad he's getting the respect he deserves.

This wasn't half bad. I mean, it's been tough finding a really GOOD Supergirl story so me saying this isn't bad is a big thing. So New52 basically rebooted most characters and Supergirl is no exception. She comes to earth similar ways of her original origin once more. She lands on earth and is confused on what is happening.
The story is basically one big confusion and fight. Kara goes after Clark because she's scared. She hears the truth, and doesn't believe it. Goes into Space to find the truth, sure does find it, and then meets the destroyers. These people, aliens, created for the sole purpose of destroying worlds.
Good: Overall liked Kara a lot here. She's scared, but she's supposed to just be a teenager. Her past is shown instead of completely explaining it to you so you don't feel like a moron. The art is solid and some of these fight scenes are amazing.
Bad: The story becomes a bit typical. It hits all the beats you would come to accept in a superhero story. I also thought Clark, being a lot younger here, didn't make too much sense talking. He just doesn't. Not the New52 one. Also the ending builds up but kind of just ended.
Overall this was enjoyable, and I read through it quickly. I just thought it could have been better. I'd still give it a 2.5 or maybe a 3 on a good day.

Like the first volume something just felt off about this. I'll get to that in a minute.
This volume is basically 3 parts where you get the point of views of different characters. One being a boxer, another a whore, and the side of the mafia you probably don't want to see. It's a study of how people's lives effect another. It's also a view into many characters and how they grow over time, better or worse, and also how they fit into their parents shoes.
Good: The artwork is still rock solid. I mean, do you expect anything less at this point? Also enjoyed the ending and probably where I felt most connected. Listening to the story of a woman with hopes and dreams get ripped apart and turned into a shell of a former self is heartbreaking but so well done.
Bad: I didn't care for the two main leads. Especially because I can't even recall their names. The story was well told enough but when you can't connect you start not to worry about who they are or what happens. I was let down in that aspect.
Another well told, crime drama tale, of revenge and loss. Ed sure knows how to write them. If I only liked the characters more this would have been a homerun!

Now this one...this one might be my favorite in the series so far.
Jacob is a cartoonist who's been through shit. I mean, wow. But first you start with him just eating at a restaurant one night and BAM this woman gets into a fight with her boyfriend and the owner of the diner knocks the punk out. The girl runs and by chance Jacob finds her on the side of the road and takes her home. From here on, the story just makes so many twist and turns it's hard not to love it.
I really don't want to go into too many details but this story basically focuses on one character. Jacob. yes, the supporting cast get's their time but nobody you feel as close to as Jacob. For good and bad. By the end, you are in this character's head, and fuck is it scary.
Good: The art is stunning once more. The tale told here is harrowing and dark as fuck but it fits so well. Whenever there's a moment of happiness it's quickly snatched away and thrown back into the pits of darkness. The background of Jacob is equally as screwed up as the story being told at the present time. By the end I was glued to the story.
Bad: Nothing really.
Overall this is Criminal's strongest story yet. The ending made me thing. The start got me hooked. The middle was hard to read for how screwed up it was. Overall this is a easy 4.5 out of 5. Rounding it to a 5 because it's that good.
