And here is where Soule gives his first "great" volume. I saw glimmers of the greatness that could be in volume 1 and 2, but here, where we get a new villain + more focus on Blindside we have a far more interesting series.

There's a new villain who murders people and prompts them up for "art". Sometimes he takes them apart, uses their blood to paint, who empties their blood and uses them as statues in a way. Muse is a dark villain and one that Daredevil needed to give this series a boost. While Matt is on the search to find him Blindside gets a lead and things spiral out of control.

What I liked: Loved Blindside and Daredevil working together. Seeing Blindside as a sidekick is great and what happens at the end between the two is both shocking and heartbreaking. I love Muse as he is a villain Daredevil needed for a long time. Dark and extremely fucked up he does what he loves to do, murder, and make art from it. I also really enjoyed the pacing here as it moved very quickly and felt scary at all times.

What I didn't like: I could have lived without the INhumans part. I get they're a part of it because of what Muse did but it felt it slowed the pace a bit too much.

Overall I loved this. Brought me back to the Bendis/Ed days and that's a huge compliment to Carles Soule. Keep it up man. A 4.5 out of 5.

Captain America: Steve Rogers just continues to impress me. I love that we get a villain (Steve) who isn't just pure evil, that what he wants to do, and change, is almost admirable if not downright truthful to our days society in ways.

So this volume is a nice bridge before Secret Empire. As we know Cap has slowly been building towards the take over. However with Zumo by his side, with a certain villain out of his way, and heroes not paying attention, he begins to take over the world the way he knew he could. With the trust of the "people" it's easy to see how he'd be able to do so. Sounds familiar right? Prey on the fear of the people to win their loyalty.

Good: The opening Oath chapter is great. It's similar to the moment when Steve died and Tony sat by him speaking to him. This is a lot more sinister of course. For Steve could tell Tony who he truly is without worry of one of his friend ratting on him. Also the whole last two issues really build and shape up Secret Empire and the death (well maybe) of someone is shocking and fucked up.

Bad: The two chapters after the Oath are kind of slow paced and dragged some. It's a lot of building and as much as I do love the build up the mass amount of dialog can be overbearing at times. Also the art was kind of iffy at times.

I'd probably rate this around a 3.5 but I'll shoot it up to a 4 because I really do enjoy the story's ideas and excited to get into Secret Empire completely. Here we go!

Sometimes I read comics to go on huge fantasies. Sometimes I read them to be in the boots of a superhero. And SOMETIMES I read them to get a bit of slice of life stories. Sometimes I can't connect but I'm glad to say Royal City hits all the right marks.

Royal City is really about a shitty little town that connects a family in different ways. Patrick is the "main" character, and I say main because his whole family gets a good amount of character development, and he comes back to town after his father has a stroke. See, each member of the family sees their little brother Tommy in different forms. Forms they remember him best by and they all talk to him as if he was there. At first it's slightly jarring but once you get into what each family member is dealing with it all makes sense.

Good: I fucking LOVED Patrick. His internal struggle + conversations with everyone came off so well done I can't help but connect. Especially since he's a writer and he's stuck on what to actually write. So true. Also, love the sister in here and her fight with her husband was near perfect. The mom storyline is also tragic and watching her slowly breakdown is cry worthy.

Bad: I didn't love the last family member's storyline. Just a typical fuck up who owes some local gang money and now is in trouble. I just couldn't connect to this one character.

Overall Royal City hits on almost every note. To have multiple interesting characters and pick up steam as it goes really is something special. I hope this series continues to be as good as it started. A 4 out of 5!

At first I wasn't sure if this was going to be for me. It starts off slow, weird, lots of words but very little meaning connecting for me. Then...after issue 2, we get into the goods.

So what's Sandman? Well besides being one of the most talked about and beloved series it's about the king of dreams. You know death right? You know Lucifer right? Well let me tell you, there's also DREAM and he's pretty much just as scary.

So after years of being imprisoned Dream escapes his shackles. Once doing so he goes on a journey to retrieve his possessions to make him strong once more. At first it seems like each story would be it's own but by issue 4 it starts to connect and really speed up.

Good: The art is actually pretty great. I really think it stands the test of time and has it's own flare. I also really enjoyed the villain in here. Sure he was insane. He did horrible things. But the way he did them made him very...strange...yet very interesting. I also loved Death and way different than what I expected. Plus she's hot!

Bad: A slow start hurts it some. Once it connects it makes the start better but I won't lie. It's a lot to take in at first and Neil Gaiman can get a little wordy. That's always been a issue though!

Overall I freaking loved the ending. The last 3 issues were so good I couldn't stop reading. I'm really going to have to buckle down and save some cash to get the remaining 9 volumes. If it only gets better I'm in for a treat.

Well due to it being a bunch of one shot stories of course not every one will hit.

So we have a story of a guy trying to show his art, his craft to the world, but no one likes his ugly ass plants. Then we have another story about a mother traveling overseas writing basically a letter to her son. We have one where a girl is trying to be a comedian and her father and mother have different view points on it. Then we have one about a woman and a guy meeting at a AA meeting, both damaged, and both fall in love with each other. Also one about a intruder breaking into houses.

Good: Enjoyed the first story about the ugly ass plants this guy is trying to make. It's filled with sad and funny moments. The one about the two drunks is also well done, dark, and yet somehow funny at times. Also disturbing because shows how people depend on each other even when they know they're no good for them. Last great story, and the best, is about the young girl wanting to tell jokes. Her mother is very supportive, her dad not so much, and in the next few months as her mom is getting sicker from cancer she is trying more and more. It's honest, sad, and joyful all at once and easily the best story of the bunch.

Bad: The story about going to America was boring and the intruder one was really bad. Those two kind of dragged it down for me big time.

Overall I'd go with a 3 out of a 5. I'd give the comedian storyline a 5 out of 5 but the rest range from 1-3.5. Overall a fun little book to check out!

Some funny bits but Captain Marvel just doesn't jive with me. I think I'll like the movie though. I hope.

This one slows down a lot and tus making it the weakest chapter so far (but still pretty damn good)

So we get a little time with Atom's sister "Uran" and she's honestly the most boring of the bunch. I really did enjoy Atom's introduction and then our Detective is still great, but Uran comes across kind of boring. We'll see if that changes. Also we get the KR group which is basically the KKK group of Robot Haters. They want them completely gone, and this "smart" group is skillful at building up their brand, and crushing the robots. This all leads up to a reveal of what could be the main villain of the series.

Good: I love how the KR group is actually smart and not just rabid crazy "fuck robot" groups. They are slowly thinking of ways to turn the public against robots similar to how the KKK has evolved in the last few years. I also enjoyed Atom's level of fear growing and making him more human like. His moments were great and the mystery growing is getting scarier.

Bad: I didn't love the stuff with Uran, found it pretty dull. I also thought the big reveal of the enemy wasn't all that surprising but it can also be a red hearing. So guess we will see.

Overall this is still really solid, a 3.5 out of 5, but not as good as volume 1-2. But I feel this is the bridge before the big major events occur.

I can't believe I waited so many years to read this book. It's fan-fucking-tastic.

So Hundred is trying to balance his political campaign with his superhero past. It's not so easy running for Mayor when you used to be a superhero. It's hard enough when the media twist your words, people believe every little thing they hear and read, but when you have the power to control Machines by talking to them? Yeah...it only gets harder.

What I love about Ex machina is that it's a big political campaign storyline but it feels like a lot of shorter stories all equaling into one big adventure. So we have one where Hundred goes to Jury Duty. That already sucks, right? What happens when a crazy guy in there starts making demands by holding someone hostage? Then we deal with a protesting march that goes really wrong. Last but not least it ends with a super villain story of sorts but not a big old traditional one. Which was refreshing.

Good: I loved it all to be honest. Each story tries to balance superheroism, political moments, and human feelings. Even the weakest stuff about Hundred's dad was still pretty interesting. But then we get into things like Jury duty case, the protest march, and our very first super-villain story? Yeah, Brain is the king of making stories captivating throughout. On top of that the art is great and the feel of each character, the emotion, and the overall tone is amazing.

Bad: I can't think of much. Maybe a LITTLE long-winded at times.

Another fantastic look into the political superhero world of Ex Machina. Really reading it slow so it never ends. I have a feeling this will be in top 10 comics along with Saga and Y the Last Man in the end. A 5 out of 5.

This was a fun little backstory for Fitchner, and how he became who he was.

The story is a fast paced action adventure about Fitchner trying to get by despite being the outcast, the black-sheep, yet he excels past his peers. When he falls in love and has a baby with a Red all is good...or so he thinks. When you find out what happens to his wife and kid he must go on a mission to save the ones he loves.

Good: I enjoy the art at parts a lot, gritty and fucked up. I also thought Fitchner had a interesting point of view and gave a little bit more meat to the characters. The fights were fast paced and exciting as well.

Bad: It didn't give any big surprises and if I didn't read it no big loss. I also thought sometimes the art made it really hard to understand what was happening.

This was a fun little add on to the Red Rising series. While not as good as any of the novels it still was solid enough to recommend. A 3 out of 5.

First 3 Pages contain a sister cutting off her brother's arm and it growing back.

By around page 18 the sister, who cut off her brother's arm, is in bed with him asking for him to give her a baby. They are around 13-14.

SO yeah...this Manga is something else. I'm not sure what's happening half the time to be honest. Basically a man who regrows his body parts is lit on fire and then that fire can never go out because he is regrowing his parts over and over again so he stays on fire forever. They all blame the witch of winter because of the coldness of the world while Angi, the main character, main goal is to kill the person who made him stay completely lit on fire for the rest of his miserable life.

Good: Uhhhh it's crazy insane and never boring. There's a dreadful feeling throughout it all and for that it stays scary with high stakes. I also thought the ending was a pretty interesting twist that made me want to try volume 2.

Bad: Characters act super fucking random at times. Traps everywhere (for non-manga/anime fans this means boys who look like girls). Also there's some beastiality and a lot of rape/almost rape so might be a bit much for people.

SO yeah Fire Punch is a gut punch because it'll probably leave you kind of stunned. If read darker series like Gantz or Berserk the gore/sex won't turn you off but the rest might be a bit too much and also some of this dialog is wow. BUT overall it's entertaining enough to least try another volume. A 3 out of 5.
