Short reviews for next few days. At comic con!

So this was pretty eh...some fun moments in a otherwise dull storyline. I enjoy dixon work on batman and nightwing but he came kind of flat here. I thought his dialog for the characters weren't very realistic or interesting. The art would range from ok to good. So overall ehhhh a 2 or 2.5 out of 5.

I really love Sunstone. It's one of my favorite graphic novels. To learn more about that check out my reviews for each volume I posted as they were coming out. Why do I bring that up? Because Swing is almost a companion of sorts to that series. Even the art looks similar but that's because it's done by the wife who did sunstone so there we go.

This is about two people who fell in love in college, got married, had kids, and not kind of in a weird time in their life of figuring out who and what they want. Cathy and Dan, our two main characters, basically show their sides of marriage. Funny enough it's pretty similar. However, Cathy met Dan in College, fell in love, and was the only person she had sex with. So she wants to explore more. Dan, working all the time, and getting stuck in a rountine, is also confused on the whole thing.

As someone who's been married 4 years now I also get to experience thoughts similar to these characters. When you marry things get complicated. There's a ton of great things about being married to your best friend, but it also feels sometimes like missing out on things didn't get to experience. These characters realistically go through that, each wanting things, but can't have due to being married. So that part of the book I completely understand.

Then there's the swinging part of the book. Where Sunstone approached BDSM in a interesting and respectable way, Swing tries to do the same. It focuses on the subject of swinging and how for some couples/married people it would fix or help make the relationship better.

Good: I enjoyed the art immensely. While maybe lacking a bit of detail here and there that her husband has Linda still does a great job. I also thought both Cathy and Dan had a lot of character development in a short time. They grew, and you learn to care about them, and love them, and get mad at them for decisions. I liked the consistent struggle of everyday thoughts here, but also loved watching the characters together in love. It's special, and realistic, and it's a nice twist.

Bad: Sometimes the pacing seemed way to quickly. I think when it slowed down it worked best. In this a lot of it is pushed quickly and not enough breathing time. I hope it slows down some.

Overall this is great look into marriage but also a subject most people don't like to speak about. My wife and I are still young into our marriage, and learning things about each other, and I love to see a series capture a lot of that. I also am intrigued on things I'm not really into (BDSM) so Sunstone hit a great spot to learn about people who are. Swing is another subject I'm not currently doing but intrigued by and see characters going through that is pretty great. A 4 out of 5.

ONE PUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so I love the anime so figured I'd give the Manga a chance. Does it hold up? For the most part, yes.

This is all about Saitama and his jounary of being a superhero! Well kind of. Basically, he's freaking untouchable in a way. With one punch he can take down ANY villain. So it's easy to see why this young bald man is becoming bored with life. So this is just his daily fun time with taking down a bunch of villains with his ultimate power. Get a little bit of backstory here, a dream, and introduced to a cyborg like man with spikey hair to kind of make fun of all the pointy hair heroes we get in every Shonen.

Good: Super fun dialog, actually laugh out loud moments, great fight scenes that, while not as impressive as the anime, are still really easy to follow, and brisk paced reading. It's worth checking out for just the crazy fights alone but the character moments and humor push it even further.

Bad: They seem disconnected stories because the main story doesn't begin yet so might feel a little lost in itself.

overall one punch man is a ton of fucking fun. While the anime's fight scenes bring it to the next level this is damn good. A 4 out of 5.

More hilarity as our favorite hero continues his adventure. This is mostly a continuation of the first one, but these are a bit bigger stories, two main arcs, one in which they must blow up a base and another where they fight a evil group of bald people. It's pretty funny, entertaining, and almost as good as the anime. A 4 out of 5.

Well this would be my first offical Catwoman comic review. I never read her solo stuff (Despite owning Ed brubaker's run, I know I know, I own a ton of stuff I haven't read) and heard this one was controversial.

I really like Judd Winick's writing style. It's fast paced and very fun. He gets the human moments to hit but also let's the art flow and give some great set pieces. So we have Cat doing what she does best, stealing a ton of shit. Her main mission here, to steal expensive things, goes sideways as she attacks someone she wasn't supposed to. That and a gangster gets tired of her shit and comes after her which leads to some screwed up moments for the poor thief. Oh yeah and then she steals something that has dirty cops after her and Batman even gets involved.

Good: The art is very "sexy" at times, but also really great for fight scenes. They flow and work so well I was really impressed. I thought giving Cat her own thoughts and style worked well for her. She's def not boring, not one bit, and her fun and adventurous side is great. My favorite moments are when her eyes grow wide like a cat and you can tell she is getting ready to strike. The sex scene is great too, despite people complaining about it, and shows how screwed up Bruce and Salinas's relationship is.

Bad: The death in here kind of easy to see coming. It's in most movies like this where someone steals something, pisses off the wrong guy, and then ends up suffering. I also thought the half hanging out boobs at the start was a little much.

Overall, this was a ton of fun. I really enjoyed the style, the fights, and the Cat personality. I'm hoping this series continues to be entertaining. A 3.5 out of 5 but I'll tag it with a 4 because was never bored.

Boruto is years later when everyone has kids. THe storyline is basically the same. Except this time Naruto's kid doesn't want to be Hokage, and Sasuke's kid does. The character's kids look and act similar to their parents. Evil is brewing behind the scenes. Why did I borrow this? Not sure. I didn't even even finish Naruto but this didn't make me want to go back. Art is pretty solid though.

One Punch Man continues to be fun as heck.

So we get a bit of training, more hilarity, and some great fights. The stand out is def Saitama and Genos. It's explosive and fun as hell. There's also great moments of comedy, one moment that works so well is a money scene. But yeah, One Punch Man is just good old fun time. Check it out! A 4 out of 5.

This is Judd Winick's first try at Green Arrow after taking over for Brad. It stumbles a bit on plot, but interesting character growth helps.

So these creatures begin to pop up in Star City. Conner and Oliver decide to take it upon themselves to fix up the streets. When a group of filthy rich assholes hire an assassin to clean up their mess it crosses paths with Oliver. So have these creatures roaming the streets and the mystery behind that, the assassin coming after Oliver and company, Oliver falling for a new girl while being with Dinah, and yeah, a nice jumbled mess.

Good: Love the ending. It builds to a bitter sweet moment and a lot of characters going to be stuck in new situations. The moments with Oliver and his family, son or daughter-like character, are always good. Realistic family dynamic that makes it interesting. The fights are pretty great and some really brutal moments.

Bad: The main plot feels lost. The whole plot line with the monsters and what they really are is kind of bland. I thought the art could sometimes be a bit messy.

Overall another fun volume but the weakest so far in this run. A 3 out of 5. Maybe 3.5. But I'll settle on 3.

Season 9 continues to be good, just not great.

This is two different stories here. First one is about Buffy joining up with Kennedy (Who is now broken up with Willow) and working under Kennedy operation. What's that? Basically she started up a secruity workplace for all the used to be Slayers. It's pretty cool concept and Buffy gets to do her butt kicking fights with Kennedy and the demon from the last volume. The other story is about Billy the vampire Slayer. Who's that? A teenager who comes to terms with being gay and learning to love himself but also protect the ones he loves.

Good: The first part of this is pretty entertaining. Mostly because it reminds me of a old episode of buffy and it's nice to see more laid back storylines verses the muddling story of season 8. I also thought Kennedy kicking butt was cool. I liked Billy the vampire Slayer for doing something new and fun. The dialogue of course is pretty strong and humorous.

Bad: The art still somewhat lacks detail, especially in fights. I think Billy the vampire slayer was a fun storyline but lacked emotional impact. A cool ending but a otherwise dragged out two parter than could have been a solo issue. I also thought the ending to Kennedy arc was just okay. The opposite problem of Billy storyline.

Overall, another good volume. I want to love this season but I don't. Atleast it isn't going the "horrible" route like season 8 did in the later half. A 3 out of 5.

The end of Dragon Ball and the start of Dragon Ball Z!

Goku vs Piccolo for the final showdown begins here. Who will come out victorious? Will Goku finally win a goddamn tournament or will Piccolo take the win? Then the next arc opens up Dragon Ball Z where Raditz, Goku's brother, arrives on earth to tell our hero some upsetting news. He's not a human after all, but a alien race called Saiyans! Goku must now rescue his son, Gohan, from the clutches of the madman Saiyan! Last but not least is the arc of the Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta arriving on earth. With goku rushing back to help his friends after gaining new powers, the Z warriors must hold them off from destroying the world. Could they do it? Find out here!

Good: Love the hell out of the end of Dragon ball. I mean, it's so sweet to see Goku get what he deserves. Also, the fight is intense, and also really funny at times. It's probably top 3 arcs of the whole series for me. I also enjoy the mythos of Dragon Ball Z, and the Saiyans, reminds me a lot of Superman but a little bit more vicious. Vegeta and Nappa are also great villains, evil as hell, and they set up the series of bigger and more evil bads the Z universe gets used to.

Bad: Raditz coming out of nowhere def feels a bit of a retcon. The Dragon Ball Mythos was based off the money boy Goku, but now we changed it to there's a whole race of Monkey type creatures. So feels little off looking back on it. Also, the Journey to King Kai is still a bit longer than one expects even in Manga form.

Overall, this is great stuff. While not as good as the last volume it still finishes off Dragon Ball in a great way, and starts off DBZ in a good way. A 4 out of 5 for this title.
