The Spectre goes to heaven to try to find God, but the dude is missing. He has to deal with angels who annoy him, and it's kind of funny. Great imagery though.
New Review 2024 - Well damn. I loved this entire thing. I disagree with old me, the last story wraps up great, and really helps flush out the supernatural elements here. While the first story is more grounded, both serve the exact purpose. I loved this entire book, a 5 out of 5.
Old Review 2020: Welp, it took me forever to get to this but damn was it good.
So the first two issues are really the best part of this run so far (not to say the rest is bad of course) but man the emotions. It starts off a bit shaky, Swamp Thing weeping for his loss, but then we get into a hunt where he is shot to death. Upon awakening he learns the truth, Holland had died years ago, and the plants have his memories. So is he the man turned monster, or the monster turned man? This is what the rest of the run focuses on answering. The next few issues you get to learn a lot about Holland, Abby, trying to fit into a world as a monster, saving children who've been hurt, and more. It's a great character piece and now it might be my favorite Moore comic so far.
My only negative is the last story gets wrapped up a bit too quick and the start of the entire collection is picking up from someone else's story so can feel a bit shaky too. But besides that I really dug a lot of this and expect this run to only get better.
A 4.5 out of 5.

Solid new start from Taylor. Basically flips back and forth between Thomas and Bruce wayne. Their oath not to kill. A new drug being developed to make you younger, faster, stronger. And how far will we go to protect the innocents.
A really fun exciting start with Nightwing trying to protect the mobsters around his city simply because the police are about to be a bigger problem with their new weapons. It's fun, snarky Nightwing, good art and fight scenes. Pretty much what I was hoping for with the relaunch.
Wow, what an amazing volume.
The first half is all about meeting the Warrior who will join the team. He was defending this town for so long, but really he's kind of a coward. But Frieren pushes him to face his fears (and dragon) in a really awesome way. Second half deals with demons and their push to sneakily try to invade a human town. Frieren ain't having that shit happen.

New Review 2024: I actually mostly agree with my old review. The odd issue out here is with the talking animals. It felt very jarring compared to the rest of the run. Saying that the rest of this volume is great, even the trippy "sex" scene. But the highlight is the death and return of the loved one.
Old Review 2022: A deep look into what Swamp Thing is plus a lot of great moments for both him and Abby.
Swamp Thing wants to let Alec rest, and so he finds the remains of him after the explosion. Upon finding his body he wants to get closure and he might just do that. Then we flip over to Abby dealing with a old enemy. When Swamp Thing must go into the world of the supernatural, into death itself, and into hell, will he be able to come back? Then we get two one shots, one very odd weird one with talking animals. And then one with Abby and Swamp Thing trying to learn how to love one another and...get on drugs and go into a weird trippy world.
Overall, a pretty great volume. Besides the one shot about talking animals, that one I thought sucked. But all the others was a nice deep look into what it means to be a creature with memories, and if you are that person, if you have the memories of that person. Because what are we as humans if not just memories till we die. But between the trippy adventure into hell and also love, this was a odd volume but engrossing the whole time.

Absolute Swamp Thing by Alan Moore, Vol. 1
Alfredo Alcalá, John Costanza, Alan Moore, Stephen R. Bissette, Rick Veitch, John Totleben, Tatjana Woods, Shawn McManus, Dan Day, Ron Randall
This to me is Alan Moore's best work, which is saying a lot.
Through this entire volume we get to catch up on who Swamp Thing is. Which is crazy cause it does continue the last run but it does it in a way to catch you up with the key players so quick and flawlessly really. But the real highlight is the evolution of Swamp Thing and what he becomes here.
The truth behind Swamp thing and what he really is changes the entire character in a positive way that also enhances every run after this one. Moore decides to take a big swing on the reason and origin basically of Swampy and it pays off. On top of that some excellent storytelling overall dealing with identity, leaving behind the past, family ties, and even sex. I would go as far to say this book was ahead of its time and still reads today so well, as if it never aged.

Art still great but the story in this one fell a little flat for me. Seems we're stretching this search for God storyline.
An uneven but entertaining first volume. I feel a lot of new readers for DC will be confused on who most of these characters are. A lot of them feel like stories left over from previous which isn't great. But once things start to come together It gets better. The final issue is the best of the bunch and intrigued me to see how this team will function.
