A really fun event where Scorpion, Miles, Red Goblin, and a group of fighters similar to something like Suicide squad have to survive against the insane man Carnage himself. It's over the top, balls to walls action, with a lot of great art, and really brutal moments thanks to carnage being, well, a piece of shit. I really enjoyed this little crossover, and well worth it for Spidy fans. A 4 out of 5.

This was a weaker volume but still with great character moments.

The first story is about a bunch of mobsters killed in the 50's, but buried where the Gamma explosions went off, creating them all into one body of a monster similar to the Hulk. Peter than has to protect another mobster from this creature wanting to exact revenge. It's a pretty cool story cause show's Peter's smart side of how to deal with situations but drags on a bit too long and didn't care about the Mobsters. I will say the final two issues are a lot stronger, with Peter again helping one of his students with her family issues. Really wholesome and some great detective vibes for Spider-Man that I enjoy.

Overall solid, a 3.5 out of 5, but not as good as the last 4 volumes.

Red Goblin is a ton of fun.

Normie has gotten a hold of Rascal, a cute little symbiot who wants to be friends. But this crazy little bastard can go berserk, turning little Normie into the vicious Red Goblin you see on the cover. When Norman gets kidnapped by the Goblin Nation and a old foe comes back, things get wicked.

I really enjoyed this. The dynamic between Normie and Pop Pop (Norman) is amazing. So much great dialogue, awesome fights, love the design of the Red Goblin both normal mode and vicious goblin mode. I need more fun horror rooted marvel stories.

A 4 out of 5.

Stormwatch is relentlessly Ellis in the good and bad.

Basically Weatherman, a guy who runs the stormwatch organization, is trying to build up his team again. This time multiple teams to tackle multiple situations. There is a overarching plot here but a lot of the later stories are about a single character and how they tie in to the overall team dynamic that Ellis is creating.

An it's in those inner moments of each character I've learned to care and enjoy them. The best being Jenny Sparks. I need and want to know more about her right away, poor lady been through hell and back. But the team dynamic itself and over arching plot, despite some neat twist, isn't nearly as interesting as I had hope for.

But this is the first half of the run. Let's see the second half and how it holds up before we move to the Authority!

Happy Birthday Spider-Man!

What starts off as Peter dealing with a asshole of a staff member at school becomes a cosmic threat that'll end all humanity as Dr. Strange tries his best to stop impending doom. This gives a chance for Spider-Man to go back in time and see all the major choices and fights of his life in issue 500. It's a pretty great issue with a lot of heart, and a somber but well thought out ending. The last two issues is May still coming to terms with Peter as Spidy and about sometimes we have to stop bad things from happening even if it might come back at us.

A well crafted, heartfelt, and enjoyable volume. Strazynski just knows how to write characters, especially Peter, MJ, and May. This feels like a real family unit, with real issues, while also tackling superhero elements. I can't get enough of this run and remember why I loved it so much growing up. A 4 out of 5.

A nice little story about what MJ and Peter mean to each other during the Civil War era. Pretty solid stuff, some cute moments, and enjoyable art. A 3.5 out of 5.

First two part comic was a bit weak for me. Loki is one of my least interesting characters in the Marvel universe usually so his story didn't really connect with me.

Saying that the actual book of Ezekiel was great, dark, twisted, and a wonderful ending. Shows who Ezekiel truly was and becomes. I really enjoyed this one a lot and the way better learns from it is wonderful. I also really dug the story of Peter helping a kid who almost commits a murder while MJ deals with the life of becoming a actor. Overall, it's all good stuff.

Yep! Still pretty bad.

But a bit of a surprise not the worst thing I ever read. There are good moments, mostly relying on Peter and MJ's relationship and how they are there for each other. And the idea of Gwen having super babies is a weird one but could be intriguing as Peter gets to try to save one the way he couldn't before so that was nice.

But holy macaroni, you're going to make the father Norman? And on that of that have Gwen have sex with him simply because he was "tired and sad" and something "about him made her just...explode" like what in the fuck? Okay not exact quote, but it's just as nonsensical. I'm not against people making mistakes in fiction because in real life it happens far to often but no way, in any fucking universe, would Gwen ever sleep with Norman.

The plotline seemed to want to move quickly but spread out for a mystery. But you could just tell JMS wanted to move on as quick as possible the way he ended everything but summing it up in 22 pages after all is reveal. It's a bad story overall with a couple of good moments.

A 2 out of 5 at best.

Weird never reviewed this but Jon getting to know this world is great and horrifying all at once.

Unlike most Omnibus I read, Amazing Spider-Man by JMS is actually one I hold dear to me. It's one of the comics that got me into comics back in my younger years. While Ultimate Spider-Man got me hooked into the High School life of teenage Peter parker, Amazing Spider-Man got me hooked on a older Peter in his late 20's, early 30's, trying to help his community as a teacher while dealing with adult problems and love life.

So going back years and years later to re-read it was a huge joy for me. That doesn't mean it's a automatic 5 out of 5 book though. Like with anything, certain things will hold up, sometimes get better, but also at times get worse. So when I cracked open this huge Omnibus I was hoping to atleast enjoy it as much as I did as a teenager.

The start of the whole Omnibus is Peter trying to deal with MJ leaving and him trying to find a purpose in the work life. With a suggestion by Aunt May he becomes a substitute teacher, a rare case of letting Peter's smarts showcase in the storyline. Soon into it we get Peter just naturally fitting the role as teacher and helping students in the class in different ways. We're also introduced to do major characters, Ezekiel and Morlun. Ezekiel has spider like abilities similar to Peter and quickly introduces a whole new mythos into Peter's life about Spider totems. At the same time Morlun is a vampire like creature on his way to murder people with these Spider totem powers, and his next target is Peter.

The first arc in this volume is hard to top, since it introduces two new key players, a new mythos, and a hectic battle of hell as Peter tries to fight back against Morlun in a brawl that is surely the web heads top 5 battles of all time. This also gets to showcase in a fight or die fight that is both heart pounding and a joy to watch. This is easily one of my favorite arcs of all time for Spider-Man and a wonderful way to jump into the character.

And honestly most of the volume continues in this fashion of being fun and exciting and always working well with the main trio of characters, Peter, MJ, and Aunt May. This is also the run Aunt May learns Peter's secret, which changes the dynamic greatly and gives us some excellent moments of Aunt May's wisdom.

The art is always pretty solid with some standout fight scenes and moments of Spider-man posing. I'm not always a mega-fan of Romita Jr. art but he fits Spider-Man very well. Especially when Peter is fully suited, it looks amazing. The faces on the human characters though can use some work sometimes.

The real negatives are just two storylines. There's a storyline with Loki about his daughter, and while not AWFUL it's also not nearly as interesting as it could be starring the trickster king. I thought it was okay but slowed the overall pacing of the book down for me. The big stinker is Sin's past, it's still pretty bad. If you don't know what happens here, basically it nearly ruins a character called Gwen from the older comic stories of Spider-Man. It's not completely unsalvable as there's still some great moments between Peter and MJ here but the damage to the overall character and the plot itself is pretty awful.

But besides that this is really a fantastic run, especially this half. It holds up as a favorite of mine and if it was for the two weaker arcs it would probably be a perfect book for me. But as it stands it does have some flaws I can't ignore. Looking at all my reviews on each individual arc, this lands at a amazing 4 out of 5. And it deserves it.
