100 Bullets goes back to one shots for this volume and it boost it up for me in terms of interest.

This time each one shot gives a bigger look into the key players. The best one shots for me were easily Dizzy, Cole, Lono and Wylie. Dizzy is a great down to earth chapter, kind of showing where her life is and where it was prior and where her friends lives are. Really great stuff. Lono's chapter is fucking nuts and the ending a nice surprise. Cole is somber, with a love story and a robbery all at once. Wylie is insanity but in the best way.

Overall, this was a mostly great volume, and better than the last two. More like these please.

So we get two stories here.

The first is about Loop and eventually Lono. This is probably one of my favorite stories so far because Loop has become a character I enjoy. While trying to be a modeled prisoner, he makes a mistake and attacks a vicious killer. Then we have Lono come into prison and it gets worse as he remembers who he is. Even more so when Shepard visits. All of this is good stuff, reminding me of a solid arc of OZ the tv show.

The second story folds back to the one shot of the drug addict who took the gun with 100 bullets, and is slowly taking out scum till he has one bullet left to shoot himself. It's a wild chapter, and kind of stupid, involving a tiger, but it's entertaining.

Overall a 3.5 out of 5, but I'll bump it to a 4 for the Loop storyline.

Finishing out Mark Waid's long run, we end with a solid sendoff but not great.

Basically Linda was taken out of the timeline, and no one can remember her. Then a new Wally shows up, or we should say Flash. But then we go into another timeline, and something happened to this Wally who's actually Walter. So that Walter comes to-- You know what, it's just a lot of big time traveling storyline and ends with a few one shots of Flash just going around saving people and living the married life.

None of it is bad, but none of it is great. I feel like the second half of Waid's run drops dramatically in quality and too much time traveling crazy storylines that aren't nearly as fun reading as I had hoped. Overall a solid run throughout, and Wally is always great, but the plotting around him isn't always up to par.

A solid story that we go deep into Wylie turf as we learn about his past and why he's so fucked up. Also Shepard and Diz become big factor into his storyline. The whole storyline feels a bit disjointed but the ending is pretty fucked up yet somehow happy. Then we get one final issue, that you'd think is disconnected from this storyline but it is the topper and man oh man is it fucked up. Good stuff to end on for sure for the Omnibus.

100 Bullets is a strange comic for me to review. Because there's parts I love, parts I enjoy enough, and also some really odd disconnect to the characters.

So the general idea at the start of this is a guy name Graves gives people a suitcase with a gun and a 100 bullets. Usually the person he targets has done something horrible and tells that person he's given the briefcase to that they can choose whatever they'd like to do with the weapon. This is a intriguing idea, since they can kill and get away with it, both the bullets and guns are untraceable.

Soon into the story though we shift our focus to the Trust, the organization behind everything. Think basically something similar to the illuminati. Then they had these hitman basically called the minutemen who took care of business for them. Some time ago they betrayed the minute men and aimed to get rid of them. In doing so this made Shepard, another key player in this game, start his own way to maybe create a new group of people.

Eventually most people in these stories, wheatear one shots, or a few parts, intertwine with each other. That's the general idea that no matter what in this crazy fucked up life, these murderers and dog shit people will eventually come face to face. Who comes out alive is the big question.

The dialogue is done well enough, making tough guy mafia to gangstas on the streets, we have plenty of different styles and a diverse cast which is a breath of fresh air. Sure some of it is stereotypical, especially at the start, but he usually does get better as the series goes on.

The art is unique, and works well for this dark and fucked up universe. Not for everyone, but most certainly worked for me. The way the happy go lucky characters faces shift to a dark and sinister tone is actually really well done and I enjoyed that part of it a ton. So the art does work for me, even if it's a little static at points.

The characters are multilayer but for me to care about them is hard. I really didn't. Sure shocking turn of events made me go "oh shit" a few times. But to actually be attached to someone, maybe Diz out of everyone here, but even then I wouldn't say I'd cry if she were to die. The lack of human connection is weird, because it's really the only major fault for me here.

Saying that this is a different style book than I expected. And I feel it shifts from mystery and gangsta drama to more overall hidden agendas and organizations. I'm still intrigued but I won't lie, the start of it had me more interested than the later half.

A 3.5 out of 5.

One of my favorite first trades ever for any character.

Peter's life moves forward as he becomes a teacher and his mythos expanded. I love the idea of the Spider Totem stuff, it's just really fun and just enough comic book goofy. I also really love Morlun here as a almost terminator like force. It shows how desperate Peter can get but also how he'll NEVER back down. It's both inspiring and shocking. It's one of the best Spider-Man runs for me, and can't wait to read more. This is what got me into spider-man as a kid and still stays strong.

The big moment is here, Aunt May finds out Peter is Spider-Man!


Another great, if not a bit short volume.

It actually opens with 9/11. As someone who lived in Brooklyn on the day it happened, the memories are still pretty vivid. It's terrible event, and watching Peter go through it is both great but sad. The doctor doom bit is a little far fetched but whatever, it's a solid tribute issue. Then the issue Peter tries to help one of his students get through rough times is great as is the reveal issue with Aunt May. Both some powerful stuff. On top of that there's the issue with Spider-Man being a hero and MJ watching him on TV. Then MJ being a supermodel and Peter watching her on the big screen. Great contrast and wonderful silent issue with Aunt May sprinkled throughout writing nasty letters to publishers who are being mean to Spider-Man.

A 4 out of 5.

Another really solid volume.

This time we focus on two villains. One is a guy who steals kids from the hood and puts them into a astral plain of sorts. When he takes one of Peter's kids, Spider-Man decides to take a visit to him. Kind of a cool detective storyline prior to the astral plain. Then we get Doc Ock and his "replacement" which the Dock isn't too happy about. When Peter goes to confront him a building falls upon him...can he escape?

Once more JMS writes Peter so damn well on top of MJ and May. All of them are so well written, with so much heart, and even alot of funny moments. The fights are pretty great, and the survival motivation from Peter is fantastic. The Doc Ock storyline itself is okay, his replacement is too goofy to take serious. But overall still a great volume.

This series is starting to lose steam.

There's some cute moments like one of the girls coming to terms with liking someone and going for it instead of being so afraid to do anything with her feelings. I also enjoyed watching our main leads take a huge step, or least pronounce it. Let's see how far they go. But overall it feels a bit padded, a bit like nothing much is happening. I'll probably take a break before I finish the last 6 volumes.

A bit of a weaker volume yet still great character work.

This time we lean heavily into Spider-totem stuff, with a wasp like woman coming after peter to kill him. That's natural enemies for you, wasp vs spider, and most times the wasp wins. This leaves Peter in trouble and a old friend may have to come to his rescue.

The fight between Peter and Wasp girl is solid but a bit overly explained on what and how to stop it. It's a fun fight for sure, with some great moments, but didn't do too much for me outside the typical cool superhero fight. However, the final two issues really land well with Peter and MJ trying to work out their issues and their marriage. It just feels so real and honest, it's really a great turn of events.

A 3.5 out of 5. I'll bump it to a 4.
